"WISDOM" AT "GALL."
There used to be a story in the old
readers, of an Arab merchant who told
a dervish that he had lost his camel,
whereupon the dervish went on to
ask him it it was blind in ono eye,
had lost a tooth, lame in one leg, and
was loaded with honey on one side
and corn on the other. To all of
which the merchant eagerly said yes.
He was therefore taken greatly aback
when the dervish told he had not set
eyes on the camel.
The merchant, believing the dervish
had stolen his camel, was about to
kill liim -wlion lr said he would ex
plain the puzzle. He knew the camel
had lost an eye, because it grazed the
herbage on one side of the road; a
tooth, because it left a turf of grass
nt ovnrv mnnt.lifnl: was lame, because
one foot-print was fainter than the
others, while the birds feeding on one
side of the road, the Hies on tuo ctuer,
nroved that the camel spilled corn
and honev from his back. The mer
chant thereupon gave him a gold
piece as a reward for his wisdom.
An Idaho tale recounts a somewhat
similar Ktnrv of a man pretending to
be a Methodist clergyman, who, out
in that region, perhaps answers very
well the description of a dervish. He
came into town and going to a saloon
keeper asked him if he had recently
sold a sorrel horse with one ear slight
ly cropped, a white fore foot and a
white hind foot, a short mane, a star
on its forehead, a shoe gone and a
cropped tail. The saloon-keeper ad
mitted that he had. The "clergyman"
asked him how he came by the horse.
The saloon-keeper had "picked him
up.'' The "clergyman" charged him
with knowing that thehorse had been
stolen, whereupon the saloon-keeper
hinted that'it was none of the other
man's business, anyhow; that he
claimed the animal.
"Well," said the stranger, "there is
no use disputing about the matter.
You claim him and I claim him. We
will just let a jurv decide who he be
longs to." "Stop, stop," exclaimed
the saloon man, "there is no use of
that; if I make a mistake I am very
aorrv, and perfectly willing to make
amends." "Xow, Mr. ," the
stranger replied, "don't aggravate the
defense by denying it. You would
stand far higher in my estimation if
you acknowledged that yon stole the
horse." "Well, said he, "we won't
quarrel. Say what you value the
animal at and I'll pay you.'' "Fifty
dollars," was the answer.
Five minutes after the stranger de
parted with that amount in his pocket,
having received payment for a horse
he never saw. He had got a descrip
tion of the animal somewhere and
frightened the money out of the
saloon-keeper by pure bluff. In the
Arabian desert they call this "wis
dom;" out on the plains they call it
"gall."

Gentlemen: Liko moat of my profession, I
am cautious about pinning my faith to any
now medicine or curatiro agent. But your
BENSON'S CAPCINErOROUS PLASTER
has broken through tho barriers and won its
way to my good opinion. My attention was
first called to it some eight month's ago by a
patient of mino Although I was well ac
quainted with tho superior oxcellonco of your
other plaster and antiseptic dressing, made
especially for tho profession, tho Benson's
was comparatively now to mo. I had heard,
however, of its merits as a romedy, in cases
of Lamo Back, Local Rheumatism, Neural
gia. Congestion of tho Bronchial Tubes and
Lungs. Dyspepsia, Torpid Liver and tho like
affections, and havo sinco begun to experi
