An Ancient Anecdote That is Too Good
to he Retired.
At a station on a western road a
passenger boarded the. train having
among other light parcels a box about
two feet square perforated Avith holts
as if to afford air lo some small ani
mal -which it contained. The curios
ity of a fellow passenger was at once
escited to know what sort 01 an ani
mal it was.
"Got a badger there?" said ho.
"No."
"Perhaps a coouf '
"No."
"Oh, mavbe a ferret?"
"No." "
"Nor a fox?"
"Nn
"Well. then, mav I ask what kind
of an animal it is?'
"Oh. ves: there's no seoret about
it: it's a moncoose.'
"'Urn a monsoose! Well, that's
an animal I never heard of before.
Pray, what is a mongooso?"
"Whv. a moniroose is a well, you
know when a man has the delirium
tremens he sees all sorts of snakes
"Yes, I've heard so."
"Well, a mongoose is an animal
that lives on those things just eats
'em up."
"Is that so?" said the inquirer.
"Well, that is funnv:" and he sub
sided for a moment, apparently satis
fied with the explanation.
Suddenly a thought seemed to
strike him. "But," said he, "the
snakes and lizards that a man sees
when he has the delirium tremens
ain't real snakes and lizards?"
"Of course not," returned the other,
unabashed, " and this ain't a real
mongoose. Exchange.
Woman's Rights in China.
The question of woman's rights in
China seems to turn entirely on their
ability to assert them, tho Chinese
woman being less self-assertive than
her Western world sister. Now and
then, however, she does stand upon
her rights and comes off victorious.
A citizen of Foochow finding his
wife unfaithful, prepared to kill her
a course which the law sanctions in
China. But his wife was too quick for
him and instead of allowing herself to
be killed by her husband she killed
him. This is a right of a woman recog
nized by the court whenever she suc
ceeds in exercising it. The Foochow
woman was therefore dismissed, but
received a reprimand for not having
immediately informed the authorities
that her husband was ready for
burial, in order that they might have
had him interred beforo tho body
became a nuisance in tho neighbor
hood. PILES! PILES! PILES!
A SURE CURE F0U3D AT LAST!
NO ONE NEED SUFFER.
A sure cure for Blind, Bleeding'
Itching and Ulcerated Piles has been
discovered by Dr. Williams (an Indi
an Bemedy,) called Dr. William's In
dian Pilo Ointment. A singlo box has
cured tho worst chronic cases of 25
or 30 years standing. No ono need
suffer five minutes after applying this
wonderful soothing medicine. Lotions
instruments and electuaries do more
harm than good. William's Indian
Pile Ointment absorbs the tumors,
allays the intense itching, (particular
ly at night after getting warm in bed,)
acts as a poultice, gives instant relief.
and is prepared only for Piles, itching
of the private parts, and for nothing
else.
Bead what tho Hon. J. M. Coffinber
ry of Cleveland says about Dr. Wil
liam's Indian Pile Ointment: I havo
used scores of Pile Cures, and it af
fords me pleasure to say that I have
never found anything which gavo
such immediate and permanent relief
as Dr. William's Indian Ointment.
Hon. Judge W. P. Coons, Maysville,
Ky., says: "I have suffered for years
with itching piles, and havo used
many remedies. I havo used Dr. Wil
liam's Indian Pile Ointment and been
cured while every other remedy has
failed." For salo by all druggists and
mailed on receipt of price, 1.00.

Gentlemen: Liko most of my profession, I
am cautious about pinning my faith to any
new medicino or curativo agent. But your
BENSON'S CAPCINE POROUS PLASTER
has broken through tho barriers and won its
way tar my good opinion. My attention was
first called to it somo eight months ago by a
patient of mino Although I was well ac
quainted with the superior oxcollenco of your
other plaster and antiseptic dressing, mado
especially for the profession, tho Benson's
was comparatively new to mo. I had heard,
however, of its merits as a remedy, in cases
of Lama Back, Local Rheumatism, Neural
gia. Congestion of tho Bronchial Tubes and
Lungs. Dyspepsia, Torpid Liver and tho like
affections, and havo sinco begun to experi
ment with it personally. I find BENSON'S
CAPCINE PLASTER an exceptionally clean
ly plaster to use, and rapid in its action.
Many tests of its qualities, made in my own
family and among my patients havo convinc
ed mo that there is no singlo articlo so valu
able for popular use, nor so helpful in tho
diseases I have named.
Should you desiro to do so, you may uso my
name to that effect.
Very truly yours,
