She got on at Fort Wayne late in the night and said her husband had telegraphed her that- he would be aboard and she should come to his section. I told her there was no man of that name on my car, but she wouldn't believe it. She plainly intimated that I was lying to her in order to sell another section, but finally she settled down and got in her berth. About two o'clock in the morning I saw her get out with only a shawl around her shoulders, and tiptoed to the other end of the car, where she tried to climb into a berth occupied by a man who was doing a good deal of snoring. She'stuck her head in and said: 'William, is that you? William?' The man grunted when she poked him one in the ribs and told him to lav over. But tho man didn't lay over he grabbed hold of her and yelled: 'Thieves! Con ductor! Porter! There's a thief here! Porter!' Of course he aroused every body in the car, and heads were pop ped out on all the berths There was the poor woman, in her night dress, and the man in the berth holding tight to her and yelling at the top of his voice. I interfered as quick as I could and told the man I guessed if he would calm himself he would find his wife instead of a thief. " 'It's a lie!' he shouted; 'my wife is in San Francisco.' " 'Madam,' I said, 'you have un doubtedly made a bad mistake. What made you think that man was your husband?' "She was just ready to cry, but she managed to say: " I I didn't thing there was an other" man living that could snore like my William.' " From Astoria to Coos Bay. A few days ago John Johnson, John Josephson, Anton Green and a large dog came from Astoria in an open boat, twenty-five feet long and six feet beam, that the men had used there in their occupation as fisher men. They left the Columbia bar about noon on the 4th, and arrived in the bay on the forenoon of the 8th, four days out. When the men started they expected to make the trip in thirty-six hours, but adverse winds and fog delayed them. Nothing re markable occurred during the voyage and the men speak of it as something they would have no hesitation in again doing. They had a good compass and experienced no difficulty in keep ing on tho right course, but the fog made it somewhat difficult for them to tell when they had come far enough. They kept about thirty miles off shore until the third day when they ran in north of tho Sinslaw, near enough to form a correct idea as to their local ity, after which they came on to the bay bar, where they laid off and on in the fog that night and next morn ing, until they discovered tho buoys and made their way in. During the trip, seals, sea-lions and sharks mani fested a disposition to be friendly with the little boat The seals and sea-lions appeared to be prompted by curiosity, but the sharks manifested a disposition to eat something per haps the dog to startvwith. One shark almost as long as the boat, kept company with it for several hours, until one of tho men pierced him with a bullet from a pistol, after which tho shark disappeared. STOP TIIAT COUGH.
