Whereas, the requisite number of
legally qualified voters have peti
tioned to the board of county com
missioners of tho county of Wahkia
kum, sotting forth that the petitioners
are desirous of having the question
of enforcing the "herd law" in said
county submitted for decision to the
voters thereof, in accordance with
sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of "An Act
to Provide for a Herd Law," approved
November 27, 1883: It is hereby or
dered that due notice, by publication
or otherwise, shall be given that tho
electors in said county may at the
next general election at tho time of
casting his or her ballot, also vote
"herd law, yes," or "herd law, no,"
which votes shall be canvassed as
other votes for county officers. If the
number of votes cast for "herd law,
yes" exceed the number ca3t for "herd
law, no," then the county commis
sioners of said county shall cause to
be published in one or more news
papers, having n general circulation
in said county a notice that this act
has been approved by the county, and
this act shall take effect and be in
force in such county from and after
the 1st day of March following the
publication of the above notice.

derstand making butter can command
a price if they havo a good artiole.
Any keeper of Jersey cows can soon
get a premium for butter if it is of
the best quality. Good butter is sure
to bring a high price.

thousand pounds a week of Jersey

za of the Grand Union hotel to-day,

tion of Blaine. He regarded General
Butler's candidacy as of more service
to the Republicans than tho Demo
crats. Several leading financiers will
be in secret consultation in a few
days. They have resolved to push
Blaine through at any cost Money
to any amount, it is asserted, will be
place at the command of the Bepub
licans. -At the same time Demoorats
will not languish for funds. Tilden.
the politicians assort, will open his
barrel, and other wealthy men inter
ested in the success of the Demo
crats, will dip deeply into their pock
ets. If half the reports about the
financial prospects of both parties be
true, voters in doubtful states will
have great temptations to resist be
fore casting their ballots according
to their honest convictions.
