The Willamette Farmer, in an ar ticlo on the wool market, gives a good illustration o eomo of the dilB culties that some of our small wool dealers, that are not "on the inside, ' have to contend -with: A Mr. Hind- dale bought 820,000 worth of ;?ood TJmpqua -wool in 18S2, at an advan tage, and knowing the growers, he got tho best fleeces in Ompqua, and thought there was something to be made. He sent tho wool east, aud worked for months to put it on the market. Tho manufacturers had been sending their agents hero to buy our wool, but had drawn off, be cause the regular wool houses made them believe that they could buy it to better advantage. These same wool bnyers interfered to pre vent Mr. Hinsdale selling his wool to manufacturers. They interfered so successfully that the wool finally sold at $2,500 loss. He concluded to try again; thought he bad learned some thing, and would profit by it. In 18S3 he bought $15,000 worth and took it east The regular trade set itself against him again, and with all his business skill and experience he came out again ten per cent, loser. His losses were $4,000 in the two ventures. He each time bought choice lots, rather under the market, and had tho same graded in San Francisco, when it turned oft' 85 per cent, No. 1, and only 5 per cent inferior a very good result This il lustrates how tho wool trade is eon trolled and kept in a few men's hands, and that they keep out any onewhc ventures to try to handle wool on his own account. The buy ers stand in together and divide profits instead of competing; and further, thev divide territory among themselves, and then do not inter fere. The Shape of liend.. Large heads are found in the cold regions nnd smaller ones in warm re gions. Alen with large neatis enuure cold better than thoso with small ones. More vitality is required to sustain life in oold climates than in warm ones, hence nature gave largest heads at the north. The Lapp3 have the largest heads in Europe in pro portion to their size; Norwegians next; then comes Swedes, Danes, Germans, French, Italians. Arab3 havo the smallest of all men in Eu rope. Muscular men have widoheads, because the largo muscles on the sides of the skull pulling daily while chewing pull the side plates outwards. Bony men, with stronger bones and less poworful muscles, havo narrow, long heads. There are signs of char acter in the form of tho skull, but they are less reliable and not so easily scanned, and there are not one-tenth as many as in the face. The form of tho head is principally given by the bone3 and muscles, and not by the brain as some believe.
