Mukoie, Ind., Juno 18. This city and county is in great excitement over the return of Thompson Wall ing, formerly a resident of this city, but for more .than thirty years sup posed to have been dead. Mrs. Wall in cr. whom Tie loft a vounir "wife with three children, has been married twice, and has lost both Husband, ana tlie first husband and wifo met last night for the first time since 189. Eight years prior to that timo Thonip sonWallinginarried Susannah Shafer, daughter ot a prominent farmer. In '1849, -when tho gold excitement was at its height, "Walling -went out -with a number of now prominent citizens, among whom was Charles McLaugh lin, the California millionaire, who was recently shot in San Francisco. From 1852 no word was received from him, and as the years passed he was given up for dead. His father's large "estate was administered as if .such were the case, and Mrs. Walling re married to Horatio Y. Willcoxen in 1862. In 1865 Willcoxen wa3 killed in a sawmill, and. in 1866 Jeremiah Yeach married the" twice desolate widow, living with her at Spriugport, Henry jbunty, until his death in 1882. FOTJND AT .WEATHERBr, OREGON. In the, meantime Yolney Wilson, a prominent citizen and staunoh friend of Walling's, never gave him up, but flooded the west with letters oi in quiry. In February last, Walling, then deputy postmaster at Weather by, Oregon, under a postmaster who himself .had .been absent from his family for" twenty years, picked up a letter postmarked Muncie, and di rected to the postmaster, and opening it found it was an inquiry for him. Correspondence with Wilson resulted, and yesterday Walling returned and Bpent last evening with the wife of thirty-five years ago. The meeting was a sad and impressive one. The passing years and troubles have mark ed both with gray hair aud wrinkles, while children who were little more than babies when their father left, have grown to men and women, with families of their own. It is more than likely that. a remarriage .will close this romantic reunion, which is even more strange than that of Enoch Ar den. Canal Lumber. Kumors aro again in circulation concerning the great contraot for sup plying lumber for the Panama canal. This time it is reported that the quan tity required will be about 200,000, 000 feet; that tho Puget sound mill companies had united on a scale of prices and in the determination to share equally in the performance of the work. It is said the contract has been awarded them, and that they will enter upon its fulfillment August 1. Until that time they will run as now nino hours a day. They will then begin to run all the. time, night and day. The sevenmills of the com bination have "an aggregate demand upon them for 300,000,000 feet per an num. Adding 200,000,000 feet and tno .cau. is increaseu to ouu, uuu, uuu feet for the next year. JA contract for this quantity ot lumber is a big one, truly. The value of it to the tradei3 fully"S10 a thousand feet or $2,000,-000-all told on board the ship before leaving the Sound, It is equivalent to, at least 300 large ship loads, and to the employment in our woods and mills of 2000 men more then are now employed in them. To fill the whole order in a single year, in addition to the ordinary work, will tax tho mills to their utmost capacity, requiring from them an average of 1,600,000 feet of lumber every day of the year except Sunday a quantity consid erably in excess of their greatest pro duction at any time in the past The Port Gamble mill is now filling an or der for 1,500,000 for the Panama canal.
