Jos. Towner, a logger employed at S. P. Marsh's logging camp on Deep river was brought. to tho hospital at nine o'clock last night with a fearful gsh in his left leg. His companion in cutting dawn a tree made a mislick and indicted the cut. The Jessie Jamhun has about 4.500 cases of salmon aboard and will take 18, 000 more. Tho EsMale, the second "ves sel to load has 30 tons of wheat and 1,- 300 tons flour, and is finishing with 11, 000 cases salmon. The Itata and Cotcs icorth which aro coming down to-day will also load salmon. The Asxobian's suggestion in retereuoe to the fast mail between Portland and this city has been acted upon. Till fur ther notice the mail arrives here on Tues days and Thursdays whenever tho Wide West does. Yesterday eho got here at 11:45. This is a big step forward and is an accommodation that is appreciated. . The new jumper for Ecscu3 No. 2, ar rived yesterday and will be given a prom inent place on the 19th inst., tho coming anniversary of the company. In tho afternoon the boys gave her a little run and weighed the masheen 576 pounds. The hose cart is the finest one north of San Francisco and will be a valuable ad dition to the department. The favorite little steamer Gold Dust is lying at tho foot of Cass street. She crossed the upper Columbia rapids in safety a few days ago, and will run here after between this oity and "Westport. -She is a dandy little boat, and will be as great a favorite with the traveling public as the Fleetwood is. She will make daily irips to Westport, touching at all way landings. . There is the utmost difficulty experi enced in getting tho mains of "the new water company to working properly be tween here and Bear Creek. The trouble is at John Day's, where a force of men has been employed in an attempt to get the pipe that crosses that stream .secure ly joined. Washtxcton, Juno 1. Tho house yes terday resumed consideration of tho bill to forfeit tho Oregon and California land grant. Thoamondmeut offered by George of Oregon, to confine tho forfeiture to unearned lands, was lost 66 to 97. Tho vote on tho passage of tho bill stoed: Yeas 134, nays 22. There was no quorum and tho house adjourned. Tho Oregon Central land grant for feiture bill, coming over from yesterday as unfinished business, was taken up and passed yeas 13S, nays 25. Henley of California called up tho bill forfeiting all land granted tho California and Oregon railroad, excopt such lands as wero granted for that portion of the road which was completed before July 1. 1880.
