Many peoplo have noticed the re markable ouiclaiess of thought in dreaming, how a long story, with many details and extending over a great poriod of time, will fiah throutrli the miud in a few minutes. but they seldom have auv means of even approximately measuring tho quickness with which thoy some times dream. There is now going the rounds of the press a story pur porting lo tell the dream of a raiil- way engineer, which, it true, anorcis a means of measurement, and the story itself has evoryappearan2e of boint- a genuine relation of experience. The engineer had been without sleep and on duty for many hours, and at last fell asleep on liis post Then he dreamed quite an elaborate story of an accident resulting in a confusion of train orders; how he studied over the words of the dispatch, trying to make out their meaning, and then how, his train coming into collision with another, ho was thrown into the air and drppped back into his seat in the cab -with his hand on the throttle. At that instant consciousness re turned, and he found that it was all a dream, and that although his train was traveling at the rate of 45 miles an hour, it had jjone only 250 feet while the dream was passing through his mind, this distance being fixed by tho position of the train -with respect to signal lights on the line. This is the interesting part of the story, for if these measurements are approxi mately correct the dream occupied less than four seconds of time. The Yaqulna. Sax Fbakcisco, ray 23. The steamship Yaquitia sailed to-day from this port for Yaqnina bay. This i3 the nioneer trio of the new line which will run regularly botween this city and Yaquina, connecting at the latter place by rail with Corvallis. The departure of tho pioneer boat of the now line occasions muoh interest in mercantile circles. The Yaqulna carried upon this trip 1,200 toiw of freight and 125 tons of coal. A few passengers were also on board es in vited guests of Captain Thomas H. Morten, who brought the steamer around from New York and was in command. Ho will leave the steamer at Yaquina, and after observations will return east by the Northern Pa cific railroad to supervise tho con struction of two large and fast steam ers which are to be built for the new line. A. fL Johnson ha3 in tho pasture near his residence a four-year-old steer which is the largest of its ago overseen in Oregon. It was raised on the Tualatin plains, is of tho Dur ham breed, and although only in moderate flesh, weighs 2370 pounds. It will bo fed just enough to keep it growing nicely for a year or so, and then fatted for tho Christmas market of 18S5, when it is confidently expect ed to surpass in weight any bovine ever rawed in Oregon. Seaecet & Jonsso-r, Genttemcn. Like most of my profession, I am cautious about pinnimr my &itb to any new medicine or curative agent But your BENSON'S CAPCINE POROUS PLASTER has broken through tho barriers and woa Its way to my good opinion. My attention w&a first called to it soma eight months ago by a patient of mino Although I wa3 well ac quainted with tho superior excellence of your other plastor and antiseptic dressing, mada especially for the profession, the Benson's wa3 comparatively new to me. I had heard, however, of iu merits cs a remedy, in case of Lamo Back, Local Rheumatism, Neural gia. Congestion of tho Bronohlal Tube asd Lungs. Dyspepsia, Torpid Liver and the Ilka affections, and have since begun to experi ment with it personally. I find BENSON'9 CAPCINE PLASTER an exceptionally clean ly plastor to use. and rapid In its action Many testa of its qualities, made in my own family and among my patients have convinc ed me tht there is no slnglo article so rain ablo for popular use, nor so helpful In the diseases I have named. Should you deaire to do so, you may use my name to that effect Very truly yours, H.H.KANE,A,M..M.D. The genuine have the word CAPCINE cut in the center.
