The committee recommend that the primaries be held on Saturday, the 12th of April, and the county conventions on Tuesday, the Jd day or April, unless otherwise ordered by the proper county central committees. . . The committee 'earnestly recommend that the delegates elected to the state convention attend in person, and if not convenient for them to so attend Deraon- ally, that they send their proxies by electors oi the county they represent. The Republican voters of the state, without regard to past political differ ences, who ore in favor of elevating and dignifying American labor, giving free popular education to the masses of the people, effectually protecting all human rights in every section of our common country, and who desire to promote friendly feeling and permanent harmony throughout the state by maintaining a government pledged to these objects and privileges, are cordially invited to unite in selecting delegates to the Re publican state convention. SOL. HLRSCH, Chairman. Portland, Oregon, Feb. 21, 18SL THE DEMOCRATIC STATE COSYEITIOK. The state Democratic convention is hereby called to meet at Dalles City, on Thursday, the 17th of April next, at 10 o'clock a. m., for the purpose of nominat ing candidates for tno following effices: Judge of the supreme court, three presi dential electors, representative in the lower house of congress and district officers for the several judicial districts, and to select six delegates to the national Democratic convention, and generally to to uo bucn oiner Do&ines as may or xigni come before such convention. " The committee deem it fitting to pre sent to the Democratic voters or the state the following consideratiens: We see approaching an election of most vital import to our -commonwealth in all its interests, both public and pri vate. Deeming honesty the best policy, and in striking contrast with the course of the opposition party, we have named an early day for the assembling of the state convention. Our principles as a party will then be. enunciated, and our candi dates placed in the- Held, subieot. to the approval or consideration of the body politic. The -variance in the vote of thiB state during the past few years, and especially the very close contest in the presidential election of 1880, gives us much hope that, notwithstanding our present minority, with harmony in our ranks, and a well directed exertion of our strength, we shall carry off the palm of victory. But to insure Ibis, end ft is'imperative ihat all Democrats should contribute their undi vided support and hearty cooperation, sot only in the actual canvass but in its very Initiation the county primaries. We do cot presume to tresnoss nnon the precincts of our popular convention, but do earnestly invoke all members of our puny io put asiae past cuuerencea ana personal antagonisms, to unite in har monious action 4n the various primaries and to send fall delegations of represen tative men to attend, the state convention. We have deemed it fitting to reduce the number of delegates, in theiiope of secur ing the personal attendance of those to be ohosen. We especially recommend the formation of local clubs, where prac ticable, throughout the state. Believing that the success of the De mocracy is the welfare of the people, we cordially invite all persons, regardless of. past political affiliations, who favor .sim plicity, economy and frugality in the ad ministration "of publio affairs to unite withtiB. NOW AFTER MA5Y YEARS. A Tfotorloni Florida De-pfrado At Last. Causlit . A special from Kissimmee City to the Jacksonville, (Fla.) Evening Her ald gives the graphic details of a thrilling adventure, resulting in the capture of one of the most pictur esque ruffians of the South. Ralph Willingham has been for maiiy years the wealthiest and most desperate cattle king ia southern Florida. His career has been wild and checkered, but always successful. His wealth is said to be enormous and he is the terror of tho region about Kissimmee. Five bloody murders are on his hands and there is a standing reward of $2500 for his delivorv to the au thorities dead or alive. He is of tre mendous stature and strength, daunt less, courago, superb presence, and princely liberality to his favorites. He has been for years the wonder of the wilderness. Yesterday "Willingham and his handsome wife boarded the trading steamer Gertrude, Captain Pearce. The captain, "who is a man of iron courage, treated the desperado with civility. The two sat down to dinner. Willingham suddenly turned to his host and said: 'What right have you to fit up and run a trading steamer on the river, anyhow?" ""Why can't I do it?" the captain good humoredly replied, and he then went on to say that he had been permitted to do so in peace for a long time. At the end of the controversy he rose from the table and stepped out of the saloon. He was about to give some directions to one of the men be low, when turning suddenly, he bo held the desperado standing grimly over him, -with a huge bowie knife raised with deadly intent. CaDtain Tearce evaded the deadlv thrust of the knife and grappled with the sinewy pirate, who would no doubt have overcome him but for the prompt and gallant interference of several members of the crow. After a bloody struggle, in which two of the steamer's men were wounded, "Willingham, covered with blood and wounds, was disarmed and bound hand and foot Ho is said to have faced his captors with a grand scorn and defiance that even his de feat could not subdue. In the lower part of the boat asleep was Bedding Parker,a bfother-in-law of Willing ham and a desperado himself. As soon as Parker learned of "Willine- ham's misfortune he madeadesperate effort to effect hi3 release, and it re quired another fierce struggle before Parker, too, was subdued. Parker then demanded to be allowed to get off the boat, as he was not an outlaw. but thiB was refused. "Watching his opportunity he eluded his guard and suddenly plunged into the Kissimmee river, Bwain ashore and esoaped into the swamp. The Gertntde put on extra steam and made good time to Kissimmee, where Captain Pearce, with his valu able passenger, boarded the South Florida train from Orlando, the county seat, to claim the reward of $2,500. And thus the career of the richest and mqst desperate of South ern Florida's cattle desperadoes is brought to a temporary halt Ho confidently asserts that his doubloons will avail to give him back his lib erty. ATr. E. O. Eobertson, Carthage, Mo., states : "I used St Jacobs Oil for reeumatism in my knee joint, and was greatly relieved." BEPCBLICAX COrXTT C05TESTI0X.
