The same being one delegate at large
from each ooanty, and one delegate for
every 125 votes, and one for every frac
tion over one-half thereof, cast for Hon.
M. 0. George, congressman, at tho last
general election.
The committee recommend that the
primaries be held on Saturday, the 12th
of April, and the county conventions on
Tuesday, the 22d day of April, unless
otherwise ordered by tho proper county
central committees.
The committee earnestly recommend
that the delegates elected to tho state
convention attend in person, and if not
convenient for them to so attend person
ally, that they fiend their proxies by
electors of the county they represent.
The Republican voters of the state,
without regard to past political differ
ences, who are in favor of elevating and
dignifying American labor, giving free
popular education to the masses of the
people, effectually protecting all human
rights in every section of our common
country, and" who desire to promote
friendly feeling and parmanent harmony
throughout the state by maintaining a
government pledged to "these objects
and privileges, are cordially invited to
unite in selecting delegates to the Re
publican state convention.
SOL. HIRSCH, Chairman.
Portland, Oregon, Feb. 21, 1BS4.
THE DEiiOCltATIC ST 4TE CONVENTION.
The state Democratic convention is
hereby called to meet at Dalles City, on
Thursday, the 17th of April next, at 10
o'clock a. m., for the purpose of nomiuat-
inn ..iitwl -fl.it an frtr tlio rtllrktviTlfT rtffiCiC.
I U UUC Ul WIU UilCAiJC WU&b, lUlOU JICA-
ueutiai electors, represeuiaiive jn tne
lower house of congress and district
officers for the several judicial districts,
and to select six delegates to the natkm ,!
I to do such other busines as may of right
j come before such convention.
The committee deem it fitting to nre-
' sent to the Democratic voters of the state
, the following consideratiens:
We bee approaching an election of
j most vital import to our commonwealth
j in all its interests, both public and pri-
vate.
I Deeming honesty the best pulie, and
1 in striking contrabt with the course of
I the opposition party, we have named an
j early day for the as'-embling of the state
i convention. Our principles as a party
will then be enunciated, and our candi
I dates placed in the field subject to the
! approval or consideration of tho body
j politic.
, The variance in the vote of this state
during the p-ist few years, and especially
the very close contest in tho presidential
election of 18S0, gives us much hope that,
notwithstanding our present minoritv,
with harmony in our ranks, and a well
directed exertion of our strength, we
shall carry off the palm of victory. But
to insure this end it is imperative that all
Democrats should contribute their undi
vided support and hearty co-ojvration,
not only in the actin.1 cam ass but in its
very initiation the county primaries.
We do not presume to trespass upon the
i precincts of our popular convention, but
j do earnestly invoke all members of our
i party to put aside past differences and
personal antagonisms, to units in har
; nionious action in the various primaries
J ana to send full delegations of represen-
Itative men to attend the state convention.
We have deemed it fitting to reduce tho
number of delegates, in the hope of secur
I ing the personal attendance of those to
1 be chosen. We especially recommend
the formation )f local clubs, where prac
ticable, throughout the state,
j Believing that the success of the De
1 mocracy is the welfare of the people, we
cordially invito all persons, regardless of
prist political affiliations, who favor sim
plicity, economy and frugality in the ad
ministration of public affairs to unite
with us.
