birth of Christ is annually commemo
rated by a large proportion of earth's
dwellers. To-day the story of his
advent is told in countless churches,
the lesson of humility is taught
therefrom, and the principles of
"peace on earth, gooO will to man"
inculcated in various ways.
Christmas is a season ot joy, of
gladsome feeling, of good cheer and
pleasant reunion. Xo one is insensi
ble to the pleasantness of the hour,
and evervoiie is the better for its
coming.
To us on this favored Pacific coast
Christmas comas with warm breath,
green hillsides, the plash of the rain
insuring abundance.
It does not seem long since we were
celebrating the last Christmas. "We
were thinking about it then just as
we are thinking about the prcsont;
making our few or many preparations
therefor. It passed; went into the
groat abyss that swallows uptime:
and soon the Christmas of the past
was almost as if it had never been
It will be so with the present; it came,
it went; and now only the memory of
it, It may, however, have left an im
prossion upon us: not very deep, still
an influence for good, even if only a
little. "We mny not be able to gather
up all its good; but. we may get some
of it.
