Officers of the Hudson Bay Com pany have for many years known of the black cod of tho northwest coast which the Indians of Cape Flattery call the boschow. The fish, in reality, is not a cod at all, but a species of pollack, and has a scientific name much too elaborate to use. The fish is said to bo a rare delicacy such as can only be appreciated by those who have enjoyed it. It is ex tremely fat and rich, and has very much the flavor of the best mackerel. The texture of the fish is tender and delicate, and quite free from the woodiness and hardness which are the chief defects of salted codfish. It is not too much to say that the quality and general excellence of these fish are so great that they cannot fail to meet with universal approbation, herever introduced. The tish when taken from the water average about thirty inches in length. They abound all along the west coast of Queen Charlotte Island and mainland up to Alaska Territory. Owing to the great depth at which they are found tho In dians do irtit fish for them generally, but could readily be got to do so were the demand great. tis- Aiul now the merchant wary Will deem it necessary o have an advertisement well played, played, played.
