The Collfije Journal, issued by the Willamette University is on our desk. Jtis well edited: the first article, entitied "The Teacher's Work and Reward,' is worthy the attention of every school teacher in the state. The late flurry in Villard stocks has occasioned a heavy draft on Ore gon in the matter of margins, and any one wanting to borrow money finds that about the first remark the pro posed lender makes is, "money is tight." There is considerable dissatisfac tion about the tardy recaption and delivery of the Portland mail. The isolated situation of the town brings it a large trade in general merchandise of a retail sort. Shop keepers have been swift to make use of the last sensation as a means of ad vertising, nearly all the signs in town bearing some reference to the com pleting of the Northern rati ronte, Tranlc Fab re's Hotel. Princ Pub School. storia, Oct. 12th, 1883. It is a remarkable resolution that our common council adopted last night. Among many evidences that this is an age of gas, glass, brass, blare, glare and dazzle is the multiplicity of sham "associations." We have all sorts of organizations where the mem bers put in nothing and draw big div idends. In this precious associa tion, every agent is a "missionary hy gienist," and starts in -hatever town he may be to found a lodge, the chief benefit of which is free medical attendance for stockholders.
