A few days ago King and Evans sold their bodies to the doctors for 10. Younger re-J fused to sell his, saying $10 was i too cheap. King and Evans, when the got the money, gave a fine dinner to their friends, con sisting of calves' head, roast pig and roast beef for the first course, and wound up with wine and ci gars. The condemned men con fessed their crime at the banquet. They afterward recanti-d and then confessed again. Tin pxreution was private and tool; plaet- in the jail yard. The abolition of the internal revenue tax on matches has en couraged Swedish factories to ex port large quantities of matches to this country. Now every steamship from a Swedish port is bringing matches. One steamer lately brought 35,000 gross. Tho import duty is 35 per cent., and the matches are sold here for three-fourths the price charged for the home-made article. They are put up in whitewood boxes. Villard has known all about the cost o building this Astoria railroad for the past seven years; has had the maps, profiles, and es timates made by Thielson for Hen Holladay, years and years ajjo, and has actually had bonds issued on the road and pledged in London with a gentleman who was out lere on the grand excursion. The steamer JCcwbern arrived at San Francisco last Saturday with five cases of yellow fever and one of black vomit on board from Guaymas. She was placed in quarantine.
