Enquire of
BOZC-KTH (JOHNS,
Walla Walla Harvest.
The majority of farmers inter
viewed claim fair crops, many say
that they will have very largo
yields while a few claim to have
been damaged by the drought.
The lowest possible estimate of
yield per acre made is fifteen,
while the highest is sixty. Those
reporting fair crops claiming that
they will harvest from twenty-five
to forty bushels per acre. Last
season there were 36,699 acres put
in grain," white this year the total
acreage is 65,G12, a gain of 28,913
acres in favor of the season of
1383. In this county thero
are now 53,335 acres in wheat,
10,207 acres in barley, and 2,-060-
acres in oats. Putting:
the average yield of wheat at
the very low fierure of 22
bushels per acre, we have a crop
of 1,200,037A- bushels; barley at
40 bushels per acre, we have 4.03,
280 bushels, and 2,0G0 acres of
oats at 45 bushels per acre, will
give a total of 92,700 bushels.
The entire yield of cereals in
this county giving the sum total
of l,701,017i bushels; besides this
we have the corn crop, but being
raised for home consumption no
note has been taken of the acreage
or probable yield. The mills of
this county will consume S00,000
bushels of wheat,, and Isaacs'
mill, at Prescott, will grind 400,-
000 more, makinir a total of
1,200, for milling purposes. Of
this amount probably 600,
000 bushels will be taken from the
product of. this county, leaving
600,037 bushels for export, or
over twice the amount shipped
last year. The proportionate
shipment from that section of
Umatilla county, lying south of
Walla AValla, will bo much great
er than that of this county, from
the fact that their acreage of fall
fall sown grain is proportionately
greater; their lands are of the
quality termed "foot hill lands,"
and from the fact that they have
but two comparatively small mills
to grind the wheat, a large pro
portion of the grain will be on the
markets for export. Union.
