That's a common expres
sion and has a world of
meaning. How much suf
fering is summed up in it
The singular thing about
it is, that pain in the back
is occasioned by so many
things. Maybe caused by
kidney disease, liver com
plaint, consumption, cold,
nervous debility, &c.
Whatever the cause, don't
neglect it Something is
wrong and needs prompt
attention. No medicine has
yet been discovered that
will so quickly and surely
cure such diseases as
Brown's Iron Bittzrs, and
it does this by commencing
at the foundation, and mak
ing the blood pure and rich.
Wm. P. Marshall, of Logans
port, Indianawrites: "My wife
lias for many years been trou
bled from pain in her back
and general debility incident
to her sex. She has taken one
bottle of Brown's Iron Bitters,
and 1 can truthfully say that
she has been so much benefited
that she pronounces it the
enly remedy of many medi
cines she has tried."
Leading physicians and
clergymen use and recom
mend Brown's Iron Bit
teks. It has cured others
suffering as you are, and it
will cure you.

SALICYLICA is known as a common

It has been conceded by eminent scientists

SALICYLICA works with inanelous

EOME COMFORT:
After a Jtulnj- Hide a Country
Physician Tells What IXeTiiiiriis
of .Some I'oople.
"1 wish to gracious somo peoplo would learn
when they need a doctor and when they don't.
exclaimed Doctor E , as ho entered his
houso in a cosey little villago in tho interior
of tho Stato of Now York, after a tedious
nighfrido of many miles. "1 havo been down
among tho mountains to sco a man. who the
messenger said, was very sick and uot likely
to live 'till morning, unless he had immediate
help; and found him suffering from a rather
sharp attack of colic, which his family might
have relieved in ten minutes, if they had a
grain of sense and two or three s implo reme
dies in the house. But no : they must remain
as ignorant as pigs, and when tho least ache
or pain takes them, send for a doctor, whether
they pay him or noL"
"Why, Doctor, what kind of simplo rciuo
dies as. you call them, do you expect people
to keep in tho houso?" asked his wife, a3 she
poured him a cup of hot tea.
In this case," answered tho Doctor, "if
they had only put a BENSON'S CAPCINE
POROUS PLAfcTER on tho man's stomach,
ho would have been all right in an hour, and
saved mo a dreary ride,"
In all ordinary complaints it cures at once.
All diseases are eliminated from tho system
by what may bo roughly called expulsion or
extraction, or by a union of tho two processes
Benson's Plaster promotes both. It incites
the torpid organs to act, and sends its healing
influenco through tho myriad pores of the
skin, All other plasters oblige tho patient to
wait They giro him hope for to-morrow.
Benson's plaster gives him holp to-day. Which
is better, do you think? Buy tho CAPCINE,
and keep it in tho houss. Price 25 cents,

The Railway Grant.
It was a ten-mile limit and a
ten-mile lieu grant, making the
odd sections in ten miles each side
of the track, and retaining the odd
seotions in ten miles more, making
twenty miles- wide. This would
involre 3S2,700 acres, all told.
But there was no authority, only
that of interest and arbitrary rul
ing, which allowed the withdrawal
of fort miles, as has been done.
making 708,320 acres of the best
of our lauds held in the clutches of
the Northern Pacific railroad for
the last eighteen years, for which
thev have not even located but
two miles of road in Oregon, and
that at Albina.
The rise in lands pays to hold
them for so rich a company, as
they, by and b can afford to
build a oad purposely to hold
these lauds. Meantime the O. S.

standing outfit for $3,000,000, and
expect to turn this over, not for
the five or six hundred thousand
acres of land in "Wasco count,

A story is yjoinij tlie rounds- of
the English press which involves
a very wicked young woman and
a very innocent 3'oun curate.
She called upon him in aesthetic
garb and closely veiled, and with
tears, blushes and confusion con
fessed that her errand was one
which affected her whole happi
ness, and, she feared, her life. lie
expressed a prudent sympathy
and invited her confidence, but
but after several attempts to speak
she could only sob an entreaty
that he would call at her house.
He went, and there she found
courage to avow a hopeless love,
and begged that she might cany
to the grave which yawned before
her the memory of one kiss.
The curate kissed hor calmly
and went home. . A few days af
terward he received a communica
tion from the fair creature inclos
ing an instantaneous photograph
of himself in the act of bestowing
the coveted kiss, and hoggins to
inform him that there were eleven
more copies which he might have
for 100 apiece. At last accounts
negotiations wore proceeding.
"Ah! dearest," sighed tin; young
man, kneeling at the fei.-t of his
owr.est own, "dost thou know
what of all outward things is near
est my heart?" "Ileal ly, 1 cun'l
say,55 she replied; "but. if you
have regard for your health in this
changeable weather,! should think
it was a flannel shirt." She was
too practical and jt broke the en
ipifrement. v Of all the thoutcrs in the coun
try, says the New York Drumatic
2?eics, the People's Theater, now
building in St. Louis, Mo., will
have one of the best appointed
stages; in fact, none will surpass it
in finish and completeness. This
is being conducted by Mr. II. C
Raymond, at present in St. Louis,
and his interest in the work has
been demonstrated b his devot
ing labor to night and day in or
der to insure its completion in
time for the opening. Mr. Ia3
mond was much exposed to night
damp, naturally incidental in the
erection of an enormous new build
ing, such as the People's, and the
result was the contraction of a se
vere case of rheumatism in the
left leg. A single application of
St. Jacobs Oil brought relief, and
in a very short time the pain dis
appeared entirely. Mr. .Raymond
keeps a supply convenient in case
of a recurrence of a similar trouble.
