That's a. common expres
sion and has a world of
meaning. How much suf
fering is summed up in it
The singular thing about
it is, that pain in the back
is occasioned by so many
things. May be caused by
kidney disease, liver com
plaint, consumption, cold,
nervous debility, &c.
Whatever the cause, don't
neglect it. Something is
wrong and needs prompt
attention. No medicine has
yet been discovered that
will so quickly and surely
cure such diseases as
Brown's Iron Bitters, and
it does this by commencing
at the foundation, and mak
ing the blood pure and rich.
W'm. P. Marshall, of Logans
port, Indianawrites: "My wife
has for many years been trou
bled from pain in her back
and general debility incident
to her sex. She has taken one
bottle of Brown's Iron Bitters,
and I can truthfully say that
she has been so much benefited
that she pronounces it the
only remedy of many medi
cines she has tried."
Leading physicians and
clergymen use and recom
mend Brown's Iron Bit
ters. It has cured others
suffering as you are, and it
will cure you.

T. A. Clark, of the Short Line,
is at present at the mouth of Burnt
river, preparing for a summer's
campaign down Snake river.
There has been built at this place
two largo skiffs for the purpose of
transporting the camps of two
surveying parties. These being
insufficient to cany all the bag
gage, etc., another is now being
built. In about x week the par
ties will start to run a line from
the mouth of Burnt river to meet
Moscrip's line being run from
Lewiston up Snake river. Mr.
Ciark goes xlong to inspect the
country zm determine the ques
tion of a road down Snake. He
is fully confident the line will he
built. A pack trxiit of twenty an
imals accompanies tho parties.
Grand Itonde Port.
The Oregon and California rail
road call for bills for the long tun
nel through the Siskiyou moun
tains. It lias lieon agreed between
the Centra! Pacific and the Ore
gon company that the O. & C.
shall build two miles south of the
California boundarv. Chief En
gineer Morris of the O. & C. will
meet Chief Engineer S. S. Mon
tague of the C. P. about the last
of this month and determine the
exact point of junction. The
main tunnel will be 3,050 feet
long, and is located 500 feet be
low the summit. North of the
main tunnel there will be four
shorter ones, varying from 3,700
down to 250 feet in length.
At the shipyard of Hall Bros.,
in Port Blakely, there are two ves
sels in coarse of construction. One
of them is a steamer, of about 500
tons measurement, intended for
the Sandwich islands trade. She
will be completed at that place as
near as possible, and then taken
to San Francisco, where she will
receive her machinery. The other
vessel is to be a schooner, and
will probably be launched in about
three weeks.

I W hen a man has to nejrlect his
work because o rheumatism, and
fails to apply the Great German
Brfmed, we have very little pa
tience with him, unless of course
mitigating circumstances should
present themselves. For years
David Ainsworth suffered with
rheumatism, and notwithstanding
j the best medical attendance, could
not find relief. He came to the
Sciota County Poorhouse, and had
to he carried into and out of bed
, on account of his helpless condi
tion. Alter the failure of all tie
remedies which had been applied,
the directors of the Poorhouse re
solved to use the Great German
Iiemedy, St. Jacobs Oil, and this
was a fortunate resolution; for
with the trial of one bottle the pa
tiont was already better, and when
four bottles had been used upon
him he could again walk about
without the use of a cane. The
facts, as above slated, will be ver
ified by the editor of the Ports
mouth (O.) Cor.
it Never Fails-
Ifxtlotlier remedies have f:ilcd to
afford relief then is one that will nev
er disappoint vmi, and that one i Syr
up of Pigs. The strong end the weak
alike find it powerful for good; harm
less, yet thorough, always giving
strength to the bowels, so tlial regular
habits may 1m formed and the tem
restored to a health.' condition. "Each
half-dollar bottle contains from twonly
to thirty average doses, and tlie dollar
bottles more twin double. -For sale by
