That's a common expres
sion and has a world of
meaning. How much suf
fering is summed up in it
The singular thing about
it is, that ''pain in the back
is occasioned by so many
things. May be caused by
kidney disease, liver com
plaint, consumption, cold,
nervous debility, &c.
Whatever the cause, don't
neglect it Something is
wrong and needs prompt
attention. No medicine has
yet been discovered that
will so quickly and surely
cure such diseases as
Brown's Iron Bitters, and
it does this by commencing
at the foundation, and mak
ing the blood pure and rich.
Win. P. Marshall, of Logans
port, Indiana,writes: "My wife
has for many years been trou
bled from pain in her back
and general debility incident
to her sex. She has taken one
bottle of Brown's Iron Bitters,
and I can truthfully say that
she has been so much benefited
that she pronounces it the
only remedy of many medi
cines she has tried."
Leading pTiysicians and
clergymen use and recom
mend Brown's Iron Bit
ters. It has cured others
suffering as you are, and it
will cure you.

SALICYLICA i? known as a common

the cause of Rheumatism. Gout and Neural

effects.
It has been conceded by eminent scientists
that outward applications, such as rubbing
with oilj, ointment", liniments. audonUiIug

which are the result of the poisoning of the

SALICYLICA works with marvelous

I wish to cracious somo people would learn
when thor need a doctor and when they don't,
exclaimed Doctor E , as ho entered hi
houso in a coscy litflo villago in tho intorior
of the Stato of Now York, after a tedious
night ride of many miles. I havo been down
among tho mountains to sea a man, who tho
messenger said, was very sick and uot likely
to livo 'till morning, unless ho had immediate
holp; and found him suffering from a rather
sharp attack of colic, which his family might
havo relieved in ten minutes, if they had a
grain of senso and two or threo siniplo reme
dies in thchousc. But no : the must remain
as ignorant as pigs, and when tho leo3t acho
or pain lakes thorn, send for a doctor, whethor
they pay him or not."
"Why, Doctor, what kind of timplo roino
dies as. you call them, do you expect pooplo
to keep in tho houso?" asked his wife, as she
poured him a cup of hot tea,
In this case." answered tho Doctor, "if
they had only put a BENSON'S CAPCINE
POROUS PLASTER on tho man's stomach,
ho would havo been nil right in an hour, and
saved mo a dreary rido,"
In all ordinary complaints it cures at once.
All diseases arc eliminated from tho system
by what may bo roughly called expulsion or
extraction, or by a union of tho two processes
Benson's Plaster promotes both. It incites
tho torpid organs to act, and sends its healing
influenco through the myriad pores of the
skin. All other plasters cbligo tho patient to
wait They give him hope for to-morrow,
Benson's plaster jjives him help to-day. Which

The sormon was very much in
the same strain. "The grass
witbereth, the flower fadeth," was
tho text. Tt struck us that in a
region where grass is unknown
the preacher might have substi
tuted shucks for what he termed
his "lustration." "Whenever he
was at a loss for an idea he re
turned to a repetition of the text,
a rather common practice of some
of onr white clergymen, and some
times a very good one. if they
would confine themselves exclu
sively to it. He asked for our
"serious, praycrless attention'' to
what lie might say, and I am
afraid that we took the latter part
of this exhortation more literally
than he intended that we should.
He closed with a grandiloquent
peroration about burning stubble
and lost souls, suddeuly subsiding
to n low tone and an expres
sive grin as he wiped the perspir
ation from his brow with a ragged
bandanna.
"Now, I've been done the best I
could. Gimme a little money fo'
de stove-pipe!"
The hat was passed nround, and
the negroes did not contribute a
penny. It was not expected that
they would when there were a
dozen white people in the house.
The contribution was poured out
on a table before the pulpit, audit
was counted by the two ministers
as the congregation carefully look
ed on to see that there was no act
of prestidigitation connected with
it. "When the count was finished
the elder minister fell on the neck
of the younger, crying with some
thing between a shout and a seb:
"Glory to God, Hallelujah!
Five dollahs and fo'ty cents a
leetlc mo' would ha' got a new
heatah!"
'Got a heatah now, down cel
lar!" shouted one of the congre
gation. The minister was dumbfounded
for a moment, but speedily recov
ering himself, he turned to us and
said quietly, "White folks, don't
you believe that niggah," adding,
as he tapped himself on the fore
head. "Dare ain't nobody libbin
id de top ob his house," and then
with a loud voice he gave the ben
ediction. North Carolina Corr.
