Fremont St., Baltimore During the -war I was in jured in the stomach by a piece of a shell, and ha c suffered from it ever since. About four years ago it brought on paraly sis, which kept me in bed six months, and the best doctors in the city said I could not live. I suffered fearfully from indigestion, and for over two years could not cat solid food and for a large portion of the time was unable to retain even liquid nourishment. I tried Brown's Iron Bitters and now after taking two bottles I am able to get up and go around and am rapidly improving. G. Decker. Governor Eli Murray, of Utah tells this excellent stery: . "I never shall forget the amount of money it cost us to keep an old woman from crying herself to death. Of couise we were obliged to subsist ofT the couutry as we went along, and we naturally took about the best in sight. One day we took possession of a chicken ranch kept by an old lady, who stood at the irate with a broom and threatened to lick all Sherman's forces if they did not move on. Now chickens were considered of ficers' rneaUand us we were infernal ly hungry we went for those hens pretty lively. Wtien she saw her favorite fowls were being caught and killed she keeled right over and began to cry. Presently she began to scream, and finally you could hear that woman's voice clear at Atlanta. I sent the snr geons in to quiet her, but they failed, and then the officers took turns, but the more attention paid her the more she howled. I then got pretty nervous over the infern al noise, because the whole urm3 could hear it, and they might suppose somebody was torturing the woman. Finally Sherman rode up, and asked what it was all about, When we told him he said: "Give her a bushel of Con federate bonds for her hens, and see if that won't stop her." Act ing on this hint, I proceeded to business. We captured a Confed erate train the day before with $4 000,000 of Confederate mono', and I hunted up the train at once. The money was worth about two cents on the dollar. Well, I stuffed about half a mil lion dollars into an old carpet sack and marched into the house. "Madam," said I, opening the sack, "I'll give you 500,000 to quit this noise." It was still as death in a minute, and then her face expanded in a broad smile. 1 laid the package of notes on the table, and I never saw so delighted a woman." Army and Navy Journal. Itn "Work in Strathroy. It often happens that the opin ion of an experienced man, an ex pert, if we so call him, conveys greater force than an aggregation of outside, uneducated testimony. And then, too, personal experience or observaiion is so much more convincing than mere asseriion. Trained to habits of analysis and keenest accuracv, and from the very nature of their daily occupa- tion, criven to the most incisive; criticism of anything of a proprie tary nature, chemists, as a class, hesitate very long before indorsing anything of a remedial nature whose virtues have been an nounced through the public press. St. Jacobs Oil, however, is so uni versally successful and so unvary ingly accomplishes all that it prom ises, that the able chemist, W. .T. D as, Esq.,of Medical Hall, Strath- roy, Ont., sends, with Ins friendly recommendation, the follewing: i from David Harrison, Esq., 9th Cone, Township of Caradec: Having suffered with inflammato ry rheumatism since last .Tuly, and hearing of St. Jacobs Oil, 1 1 sent lor a bottle of the article on the loth of October. At that time I was confined to the house, and could not possibly get out of bed without assistance. After four ap plications of the Oil the pain ceased entirely, and I was able to go about Strathroy in less than a week. I cannot give too much praise to St. Jacobs Oil for what it has done for me, and I believe it to be a most reliable remedy in rheumatism. Its wonderful effica cy should be brought to the knowl edge of everybody. For the Ladies. Ladies suffering from sick headaches, neuralgia, colds, fevers, indigestion and habitual constipation will find Syrup of Figs as effective in affording relief as it is pleasant to the taste.
