CO ghz guiftj Qslxyfixxu ASTORIA, OREGON: SUNDAY APRIL 15, 1883 Strength of Character. Strength of character consists of two things power of will, and power of self-restrint. It requires two things to its existence strong feeling and strong command over them. 2uw, it is here we make a great mistake we mistake strong feeling for strong character. A man who bears all before him, be fore whose frown domestics trem ble, and whose bursts of fury make the children of the household quake because he has his will obeyed, and his own way in all things we call him a strong man. The truth is, this is a weak man; it is his passion that is strong; he, mastered by them, is weak. You must measure the strength of the man by the power of those which subdue him. And hence compos ure is very often the highest re sult of strength. Did you ever see a man receive a flagrant insult and only grow a little pale and quietly reply? This is si man spiritually strong. Or did you ever see a man in anguish stand as if carved out of solid rock, mastering himself? Or one bear ing a hopeless daily trial remain silent, nnd never tell the world what cankered his home-peace? That is strength. He who with strong passion remains chaste; he who, keenly sensitive, with many powers of indignation in Iiira, can be provoked and yet restrain him self and forgive these are the strong men, the spiritual heroes. A prominent politician and act ive journalist, Mr. George L. Graham connected with the Sun day Mirror, who, by using the Great German Remedy, St. Ja cobs Oil, was cured of a trouble some case of rheumatism, con tracted during the war. He closes a long statement with "to those who are afflicted with that com plaint, it is wvrth its weight in gold." An Old Man's Belief Have used.
