Advices from San Francisco say
that Oregon wool has the call in
the market and is especially de
sirable because of its fineness and
length. A distinction is made be
tween the wool of Willamette val
ley and that from the Umpqua
and Eastern Oregon, the latter
places being superior to the former
becanse more attention has been
paid to the improvements of flocks.
The assessed valuation of Uma
tilla county is $-i,75S,316. It has
G9,G16 acres of improved land, G,
131 cattle, 21G,8SS sheep, 4,04.4
swine, and G,04S horses.
There is a new settlement in
Puyallup valley called Chain of
Lakes, and a post office with that
name has been applied for.
