ASTORIA, OBEGON: THUBSDAT APBIL 13, 18S3 The "Washington Improvement Co. has been organized in Seattle to cut a canal connecting the wa ters ol Union and Washington lakes, supply the city -with water, use the water power for manufac turing, and to run steamers on the lakes. The canal will be only four hundred yards long and will lower the water in "Washington lake six ieet, draining several thousand acres of valuable lands. Beginning last Monday the O. R. & N. Co. began taking: an in ventory of the entire possessions of the O. & C. R. R., previous to taking 'possession of the ninety-nine-year lease on the 15th. An agent was sent out on the freight train Monday last to take- the number of cars along the road and a complete inventory has been made of the "material at the car shops in this city. Vindicator.
