Last Monday, says the Coos Bay flcioSy Dean & Co.'s mill was running on logs put in at Bunch & Blaine's camp, when the saw encountered a piece of broken "dog," two or three inches long, which had been left near the end of a log. Everything was brought up a-standing all of a sudden, and a G2-inch saw, worth $350, was so broken and twisted as to be rendered, entirely worthless, and the total damage to machinery, loss of time, etc., footed up fully $500. Fortunately, and almost miraculously, no greater damage ensued no one was injured. A duplicate of the saw was brought into icquisition, and Tuesday morning the mill was running as usual. A new saw has been ordered. The man who left that iron in that log should be ashamed " of himself. In addition to the ex pense and trouble he has caused the mill company, it is a wonder that he did not cause the killing of one or more persons. Such things result to the detrimeut of the log ger, who indirectly and finally comes in for his full proportion of the expense. The number of able-bodied men in the United States, liable to mi litia duty and capable of being transformed into soldiers is esti? mated at about 7,000,000. The actual muster of militia through out the country is 87,014. About 700,000 veterans of the late war, from both northern and southern armies, are still sound enough to take the field. Recommended to me, the great OREGON BLOOD PURIFIER. I liave obtained the most satisfactory and quickest result from the remedy ever know, and send me some more per Wells. Brown's Iron Bitters is one of the very few tonic medicines that are not com posed mostly of alcohol or whiskey, thus becoming a fruitful source of intemper ance by promoting a desire for rum. Brown's Iron Bitters is guaranteed to be a non intoxicating stimulant, and it will, in nearly every case, take the place of all liquor, and at the same time abso lutely kill the desire for whiskey and other intoxi cating beverages. Rev. G.W.Rice, editor of the American Christian Re view, says of Brown's Iron Bitters: On., O., Nov. i6,i88i. Gents: The foolish wast ing of vital force in business, pleasure, and vicious indul gence of our people, makes your preparation a necessity; and if applied, will save hun dreds who resort to saloons for temporary recuperation. Brown's Iron Bitters has been thoroughly tested for dyspepsia, indigestion, biliousness, weakness, debil ity, overwork, rheumatism, neuralgia, consumption, liver complaints, kidney troubles, &c, and it never fails to render speedy and permanent relief!
