ASTORIA, OREGON:
TUESDAY -....MARCH '20, 1S83
Some people in Washington
wish that Simon Cameron were
"around' "Washington now. His
pithy sayings and his amusing
freedom of language in regard to
the big-wigs were very entertan
irjg. "Vheii4ic wasasked at the
tane of theHast census, his trade,
jwofessionlpcalling, etc., the old
gentleman boldly announced
"printer." .Nothing diverted him
more than the anxiety of some of
his fellow-senators to have their
"former, occupation sunk in the title
of senator. He was pretty cer
tain to benin some yarn about
"when 1 was setting type
somewheie or other," whenever
he had a chance, in order to let
them know that he was npt
abhamed of bavin? made his livinsr
at -a printer's case.
Oncof the grand jurors for the
superior court at this term was
Ephraim Scroggs of Fallslown
.township, concerning whom a sin
gular aud interesting little inci
dent mav be told. Mr. Scro?p-s
has now burning on his hearth the
same fire which he started when
he went to housekeeping
'fifty t years ago. From the
day that lire was started to
thist has never been permitted to
go out. Summer and winter for
these fifty iars "it has been re
plenished as -occasion requires.
From a roaring heap it has
dropped many a time to a bed of
smouldering coals, but it has neer
been permitted to turn to ashes.
iStatesviUc-tLnrnhnarJc.
Mr. J. Cahill, Farragut House,
Salem, Mass., caught a severe
cold, which terminated in lumba
go, lie was cured by less than
a bottle of St. Jacobs Oil as if by
manic.
After civinsr the OREGON BLOOD
PURIFIER ii fair trial, I have fonndf!
that as blocd-miriiier and reconstruct-
or, it is what it claims to be, nndj
gladly recommended.
