In reply to tho question, "Will you state on what finger a lady should wear an engagement tring?' the New York Sun said: En gagetnent rings are generally worn on the third finger of the left hand. But in Brewer's Dictionary of Efhrase and Fable we find that if one is willing to marry, but not en gaged, a ring should be worn on the index finger of the left hand; if engaged, on the second finger; if married, on the third finger; but if there is no desire to marry, on the little finger." The Portland flouring mills company organized a few months ago, has decided to go to work immediately on its buildings, for which land has been chosen in Albina. The mills will be 80x80 feet, six "stories high, have a ca pacity of 1000 barrels daily, and employ the "roller" process. The whole expense will be about $200,- 000, and the mills are to be ready for operation by August 1st. A bill has been introduced into the legislature of Texas to punish by fine the use of "profane or vociferous language in the vicinity of a dwelling-hous?.5' Mayb'e the author thinks a man is going to get up in the middle of a cold night, when the bedclothes get untucked at the foot, and go half a mile out on the prairie to free his mind of certain ideas concern ing the event.
