ASTORIA, OREGON:
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 22, 1KJ-3
The woman suffrage movement
is often treated as if it wore some
new born fledgHnjr but thn truth
is that it is well along in years.
Us prnjrrt'ss has been slow anl
steady, therefore, we do not see at
a glance what actually has been
accomplished. A, little investiga
tion on this point will uot be out
of place. Susan B. Anthony sulci
recently, m reply to a question,
""What have you accomplished by
your work for woman suffrage?"
fWaH, 1 should say we have ac
complished a great deal; since liu
'beginning of the woman suffrage
tigitaAioti thirty years ago we have
gained school suffrage in twelve
states; law. theology and medicine
H the professions have been
tfoown open to us; all the West
ern colleges and seminaries xdtuit
womiu; there are in this country
1,000 liceused female doctors;
there are 50 female lawyers, and
women are allowed to pr-u-iiff in
tlie supreme court of the United
States, altliough a number of the
.states still shut us out; there are
40 female ministers in the Uni ver
balist church alone, while hundreds
of licensed female ministers are in
the iMotiiodist church doing the
best kind of revival work.
Thirty years ago women could only
cook, sew and teach. Now not a
trade hardly but has women in it.
Women are managers of large
stores, and manage groat farms
with success. Why, the largest!
farm .in one county in Illinois is
owned and managed by a woman.
You cAstern people ought to go
west and see how women are' get
ting along only with a few of their
rights."

So One Need Su fieri
A sure Cure for Blind, Bleeding, Itching
and Ulcerated Piles has been discovered by
Dr. WiJliams, (an Indian Remedy), called
Dr. William's Indian Ointment. A single
box has cured the worst chronic cases of 25
or so j-ears standing. No one need suffer
live minutes after applying this wonderful
soothing medicine. Lotionsrinstrumcnts and
electuaries do more nann than good. Wil
liam's Ointment absorbs the tumors, allays
the intense itehlng, (particularly at night af
ter getting warm in bed), acts as a poultice,
gives Instant relief, and Is prepared onlv for
Piles, itching of the private parts, and for
nothing else.
Read what the Hon. J. M. Coffinburrv of
Cleveland, says about Dr. William's Indian
Pile Ointment : I have used scores of Pile
Cures, aud It affords me pleasure to say that
1 have never found anything which gave
sifch Immediate ami permanent relief as Dr.
William's Indian Ointment.
