AST()RI. OKEUON
TCESD .. JANUAttY 23, is 5
In a recent lecture on "Brail.
Health," Dr. J. Batty Tuke said
lhat a si mutter of fact, it was not
an ea-y tiling to overtask the en
ergies of the brain liy woik. Ii
v:ir nut w rk, luit worry, that
killed the brain. But breakdown
from overstrain did occasionally
take place, and the first really im
portant symptom was sleepless
ness; whan that set in there was
cause for alarm. Loss of sleep
was brought about thus: "When
the brain was being- actively exer
cised.therc was an increase of blood
in its vessels this was spoken of as
"functional hypeiccmia." If they
continued the exercise of the
brain powers too long, there was a
tondency for the blood to remain
in too great quantity from the
cells becominjr exhausted and not
being able to control the vessels
In sleep the amount of blood was
diminished, and sleep could not
be procured if this functional hy
porcumia persisted. In the ab
sence of sleep, the cells could not
roGOvor themselves, and their ac
tivity became impaired. Head
ache, loss of appetite and gen
eral 4isUesncs5 followed. As soon
as a olrilti or young person de
velqped continuous headache,
wor,k should be discontinued at
once.
In Australia and New Zealand
4,000,000 people have already 00,
000,000 sheep, and have an area
sufficient for the easy pasture of
of 200,000,000 sheep at the
least. "With one-twelfth of our
population, they have twice our
aggregate stock of sheep.

For six years I have been a great
sufferer from Blood Disease, Dys
