SUNDAY JANUARY 21, 183
A Positive Fact-
The refusal to admit Dakota
to statehood should not be al
lowed to bear upon the question
of Washington Territory's admis
sion. D.ikotu is objected to for
reasons of a pecular nature fraud
and dishonesty on the part of the
people towards the people of other
states and territories. No one pre
surnes to urge the lack of popula
tion, for it is admitted that the ter
ritory exceeds in this respect sev
eral of the states and exceeds
every other territory admitted
since the earliest days of the
Union. Wc have no blot of dis
honesty to contend -with, and as
for population and wealth we are
on an equality with Dakota, if not
ahead, for Dakota is not more than
twice as large as Washington, and
they do not cai e for admission unless
divided. Here, on the contrary,
we ask admission with north Idaho
joined, and we claim that so aug
mentad, Washington is far ahead
of eitlu-.r half of Dakota, having to
day 150,000 inhabitants and $40,-
000,000 of taxable property, with
the positive certainty of the
figures being 140,000 and 50,0.00,
000 before the expiration of 18S3.
Smith Post-Intelligencer.

even at that good price, farmers
