The Cheney Tribune tells of oats being raised in that county at the rate of 195 bushels per acre. Mrs. Nancy Lindsay,a resident of Oregon since 1847, died at her home in Washington county on the Iflth inat. Dr. Baker has been appointed health officer at this port. The wor thy selection was made by Gov. Moody. The Portland papers are scorch ing a deputy sheriff from Umatilla county, who went wild when he saw gaslight. The folks down at the Seaside aro going to have a livoly time Thanksgiving evening. So writes a correspondent. The ship Langrigg Hall, which re cently arrived in tho Mersey from As toria, reports having had an unusual experience. When about latitude 50 south, longitude 58 west, a largo quantity of ice was seen, which, on coming nearer, was perceived to be an island of ice. This curious obstacle was said to bo 40 miles long. Captain Williams of the Langrigg Hall, had to beat off tho ice, for fear of getting into collision with it. The date of passing tho "island" was not stated, but the vessel left Astoria on the 23d of June, and when Gl days out passed Cape Horn. S. F. Commercial Navs. Tho now indictment fouud against O. P. Mason and W. S. Beebe for attempting to bribe certain jurors in the Carrio Bradley lhurder case, was read in court Monday and the accused given till Wednesday to plead. The assistant prosecuting attorney, has charge of the case for the state and is deter mined to prosecute it to judgment if dilatory motions do no serve to lull it SUndard. The Northern Pacific. A Kew Wk despatch says it is re j ported in Wall sheet that the Oregon land TrAiBcontincntal Company, I which controls the Northern PaciGc j and Oregon Railway and Navigation companies iiau arranged to convert the Northern Pacific preferred stcck which it holds into lands belonging to that company. Under the terms of organization preferred stock was made convertible at par into lands of the company, and wlien converted it was to be cancelled. The rumor is deniwl j by the officers of both companies, who sam tint no such action had been contemplated, so fir as ihey knew. They said that certain English and American capitalists had been talking abo-:t buying several million acres of Northern Pacific lands, but that the negotiations had not been completed and would not be probably for some time. President Villard suggested that if the negotiations were success ful the buyers would be anxious to pay for the land in Northern Pacific preferred stock, for to do so would be greatly to their advantage. Standard. The Sprinafidd Jlepublican of the 14th inst., has a long article in refer ence to this northwest coast it; general and the pleasant inland city of Port land m particular. Last year's export of salmon was 500,000 cases or 24,000,000 pounds. These figures strikingly illustrate the striking pro portions of P rtland's transactions with the outsido world."
