It was built at Itanier, is 13 A feet beam and 55 feet in length, is called tho Lilian, and will run to Knappton. A San Francisco despatch of tho 17th says that the British ship Nebo waB spoken a few das ago by the British ship Montgomeryshire. The Nobo is proceeding on, making the necessary repairs to her damaged rig ging. The Rev. J. V. Milligan will preach at 11 a. m. to day, in the Pres byterian church. Rev. David Wills, U. S. A., preaches in the evening. Rev. W. T. Chapman preaches in the upper town school house at half-past three. Walla Walla refuses to accept the Siloby engine which was ordered last summer and dumped in the river in transit. The O. It. & X. Co. ask that the steamer bo taken off their hands and appear to be Tight in the matter. Dakota gave 25,000 Republican majority; Washington Territory, 3, 500 in tho recent election. With a largo Democratic majority in congress the outlook for admission on the part of these territories is not particularly brilliant. A reward of $250 is offered for information leading to tho capture of Peter Carlson, who left here about two months ago. Ho is under indict ment onj a charge of deadly assault; his sureties wish to surrender him. It is supposed he went to Stockton, Cal. Rev. Winfield Scott, D. D., chap lain in U. S. Some of the latter class may drop up this way. One day last week, says the Standard, two Indians ran away from the industrial school at Forest Grove. I Before leaving one of them stole $25 from the inmates of the school, and the other broko into Hoxtci-'s store and took SI 65 in money. The runa- ways were both captured two or threo days later and rot timed to the school. Most of the money was recovered. At the meeting of the Astoria Literary Society, in tho Y". M. C. A. rooms on Friday evening,, a debate on the question, "Resolved that all laws for the collection of debts ought to be abolished," which was decided in the negative. Subject of debate for next Friday evening, "llcsolved that the right of suffrage should be extended to ali good citizen?, irre spective of sex." To-morrow T. ,7. Addison, who has lived in Walla Walla since 1805, will start on a journey to tho eastern states, with the object of forming and bringing hither a colony of colored people. He. will visit New York, Baltimore and Ohio cities for this pur pose. He. is very much impressed with the belief that his people will find this climate preferable to that in the east, and that the outlook here promises a rich reward for honest toil. S.V.IKIS AS MFF.
