Drowned. About 1:30 a., m., Sunday morn ing, Jas. Gourlay, cook on board th Merwanjeo Framjee, while going on board the vessol fell between the ship and tho dock and was drowned. After burying a younger sister, Mrs. Gadby of Al bany, and attending the Oregon Pio neer Association in June last, and vis iting her daughter in Olympia, hav ing suffered with a severe catarrhal cough, she gradually commenced fail ing and on the morning of Dec.8tk took her seat at the breakfast table as UBual, but soon left it for her room, her hus band not noticing her leaving, but in a few moments found her in her room vomiting; shej suggested remedies which she was accustomed t-j use, but not having the desired effect shocontin ued to sink; her husband immediately sent for her son, daughter.and a doctor from Astoria. Her husband said to her, "Mother, are you going to lcavo us? Are you prepared to go?" She re plied, "Yes, if it is the Lord's will; 1 have endeavored to serve Him and caro for my family. He will not for sake me now.'" From that moment she appeared to be relieved, and with but little more conversation in refer ence to family matters, ceased ut tering her prayer that her children and friends might join her iu Father's house, not made with hands "with our Lord and Savior," who had been with her in all hov nanderiniM and trials on earth.
