Yesterday Messrs. A. Booth, S.

Thomes made an excursion to Hungry
Harbor, on board the Katata, for the
purpose of paying Capt. West a fra
ternal visit, and inspecting his new
cannery, which is one of the most
perfectly appointed factories on the
coast They were delighted with the
visit, and their report of it has whetted
our appetite for a similar excursion.
The filling machines, crimpers, etc.,
and the engines that drive them, are
all made on the place, and are very
great improvements over any others
- Private dispatches were received
Sunday morning bearing the sad an
nouncement lo friends of Mr. John
Fox that his beloved wife was dead.
The mournful news struck very near
to many hearts, so dear to some and
so greatly esteemed by all was the
deceased. Mr. Fox received a dis
patch Friday which conveyed the in
telligence that Mrs. Fox was sinking,
and he left work, business, everything;
and hastened to her bedside, arriving
Saturday evening, only a little time
before her death. What grief, what
bereavement; what great synipatlry
due lo our brother and fellow citizen,
bereft as he is of one of the greatest
blessings of God, a loving wife, a true
and tender hearted mother. The
two beautiful children orphaned, the
father and husband broken in spirit,
calls for our -deepest sympathies.

is certainly the quickost trip that has
been made from the soaboard to the

One of the pieces was cracked longi
