will call at the latter port for orders.
-jjTlieisteaniei' Clara Parker started
to Portland yesterday morning at 3
o'clock, for final inspection. Capt. C.
Brock went as master; John Ferrell,
engineer; E. P. Parker, first ellicer:
H. B. Parker, purser.
A great many friends of the fam
ily availed themselves of the privilege
of viewing the features of Mr. Badol
let as the body lay in state at the resi
dence yesterday. There was a natu
ralness about the face quite remark
able. Wo offer 110 apology for pa3i ng
so much attention to a bumble bee to
day. The subject will certainly be
considered more beneficial to the gene
ral reader than tho political sea ndals
with which our cotemporary press is
filled.

The funeral of Michael Sibich,
the man who died suddenly at Nick's
restaurant on Tuesday, took place
yesterday under the auspices of the
Austrian Benevolent society and was
very largely attended. The coffin was
profusely decorated with flower.
Deceased was greatly respected by a
large circle of acquaintances.
Tho expensive trial of pilot Doig
might as well as not been avoided.
The Astokiax all along contended
thai he was not guilty aa charged, and
after all the jury has so decided. He
was acquitted yesterday. The asser
tion of a Portland paper that Capt.
Flavel had anything to do with urging
ibis matter on, is simply a falsehood,
and the falsifiers knew it at the time
they asserted it. We must be excused
for occasionally using plain terms.
We mean just what we say. As a
caution to pilots the trial may be pro
ductive of good results.

Mr. Villard ie scarcely comfort
ably heated in his recent acquisitions,
and yet surmises come to the surface,
from some dissatisfied malcontent, that
ho will apply the thumb screw and
squeeze Oregon producers to palimble
fineness. His recent letter to Walla
walla people definitely settles his
purposes to be thoae that will build
up an empire. Ho may choke off
some of the pestiferous barnacles that
have fastened themselves upon Ore
gons commerce, in the matter of com
missions, wharfage, etc., etc. If he
does that, let the galled jade wince.
They may then stop thoir whoop and
halloa about Astorias tug beats and
pilots, and thus give us a rest. Pier
