J w end of the Klatskauie rond, we are in- j formed that a very plea&ant drive may j be had as far as Williamsport. j The funeral of Mr. John Badollet will be attended to-morrow afternoon. All flags of the city were placed at half mast yesterday in token of respect to his memory. Mr. Stephen Butts of Columbia city, is the subject of a fortunate windfall, fetching him ovor 500,000 by tlrb lieath of an uncle the founder of Beuevue, Iowa. i -f-"Front elevation going," "real elegation gone," don't begin to com pare with the mustangs to be seen at The Astokian art gallery. Duly appreciated, however. A variety of wheat known as the Oregon, was tho only wheat that sur vived the flood devastated fields of Kansas, etc., overflowed by the Mis souri aud tributary streams. The Kn ights of Pythias uniforms have arrived. Each suit is accompa nied by one helmet, one cap, one bal- dric, one belt, one pair wristlets and gloves, one sword, one valise, one case. Mrs. lllsley is making a handsome riding habit, which will undoubtedly be the finest in the county. We are not advised :is to who will claim ownership, but surmise that it is for the prize rider at Astoria. A fellow who had been robbed of his last cent was deposited at the hospital nearly dead drunk j'eslorday. It was a miserable trick played upon the sisters by some one. unknown. The fellow walked away to sober up. Cannerymen would be interested in the tag got up for the Elmore Pack ing company for checking piece work by Chinese. It is m the form of a card, numbered, dated, and punched ; the product of Tm: Astokian job rooms. The distance over which horse back riding may now be enjoyed in the immediate vicinity of Astoria is about thirteen miles, in the direction of Tongue point, then across the penin sula via Main street, then in the di rection of Walluska. Ii8s Ida Brown, Capt ifoyes, and all who wore confined in tho quarantine station on the hill have boen released. There are no new cases, and Uie one small-pox patient is getting along nicely at the other station. Dr. Tuttle and Capt. Noyes both deservo thanks for tho able management of this case. If the quarantine law is to bo enforced, the pressing want of a quarantine station here was never more apparent than lately. The matter should be prossed upon congre&s with energy at the coming session. Death of Mr. John Badollct Mr. John Badollet died at his resi dence in Astoria at eight o'clock yes- terday morning, aged 50 years and 5 months. If the saloon keepers will leave enough beer in the kegs they stand out on the sidewalks to make a bonus suflicient to warrant him in re maining here, he will do so. He is highly pleased with the place, and says that people have been very, kind to him so far, leaving their washing out on the line till after the glooming, and in other ways showing their free, open, generous western natures. That is the question to be docidod. Will they set still like a bump on a log, or will they take measure to celebrate! Other cities in the state are moving in the matter, and will have a good time. What is to hinder us from doing likewi&e? Lot us have a rousing meeting.
