thought she found a prize on the street
a few days since, in the foi-m of a
check on the First National bank,
Portland. But the laugh was turned

covered that the draft was drawn to
the order of V. 11. A. Bummer, and
instead of bein g for one hundred and
fifty dollars, called for one hundred
and fifty kicks, signed Hit M. Hard.
It was a pretty good joke, and worthy 1

A Portland cotemporary saysj
there were no regrets expressed when
Skinner left the Portland-Koseburg I
route. A postmaster on the Astoria
Portland route expresses himself
thus: "I appreciate your leniarks in
regard to Boute-agont Skinner, who
seemed entirely out of place, having
too much 'dignity' for anything below
a foreign ministry." Wonder if Sec
retary Kirkwood can't fix the old gen
tleman better than to keep him out
here in this Godforsaken region? He
has our consent.
-The third annual meeting of the
Pacific Coast Press association will be
held in the city of San Francisco,
commencing at 11 a. m. on Tuesday,
June 7th. We have reason to believe
that there will be a large and interest
ing meeting. Arrangements are mak
ing to cater to the enjoyment of those
who may attend. All bona fide editors
and publishers of the eoast are eligible
to membership, and a cordial invita
tion is given to such to be present.
