Thus far this season, as many cases of fish have been put up on the Sacramento river as were put up in all of 1880. Tho reason assigned for the extraordinary run thero this year is: that propagation pays. Here, the slack run is an evidence of the fact that non propagation does not pay. Officer Rileys' dog chased Auditor Cardwell home night before last, and if Dick had n't closed the gate just as he did behind him there is no telling rhat the consequences might have been. To appreciate the escape one should see the gate which Cardwell so suddenly closed. A parallel bar on top of tho fence. Mr. C. S. Dow of fort Clatsop called yesterday. Wo remember well jtfr. Dow's first call when he came out an emigrant from Quebec about two years ago. The. following bill, if it could be come a law in every sea-board state would give now life to our merchant marine. It has been submitted to the tax commissioners of New York for consideratien: 1. All vessels regis torcd at any port in this state, and owned by an American citizen or as sociation, or by any corporation in corporated under the laws of tho stato of New York, engaged in ocean com merce between any port in the United States and any foreign port, are ex empted from all taxation in New York j state for state or local purposes. 2 This act takes effect immediately. The mail between Lewiston and Walla-walla is called a daily mail and it ought to go through in one day, in stead of occupying the better part of i mi mil ii i .1 4 ii two days. The Teller thinks that the postal agent could have all mail mat- ter from below Walla-walla destined for north Idaho, distributed on board the cars and placed in sacks so that the' can be immediatel transferred to the stac at Walla-walla on the ar rival of the cars and the stage push through to Lewiston that day, then the mail carrying would approximate to what is wanted. In 18G1-2 the stages made their regular and through trips between Lewiston and Walla walla in one day, and why should they not now? RealEstato Transactions. W. D. Hare to J. Y. Hume, lot 4 block 114.
