Oregon to arrive. Astoria Engine Co. Xo. 1, 1ms by resolution changed their night of meeting from the 2nd Tuesday to the first Monday. Mr. Jacob Xiederaiiur late of this citj', has lost his little daugher Emma. Death claimed her night before last. The remains will be brought to As toria for burial to-dny. The com plaint, uc understand, was cold set tled upon the lungs. Our sympathies are extended to the berenvod patents in their affliction. - -Mr. Grimes of Clatsop called to see us yesterday. From him we learn that it has not been psible to reach the location of the twelve bodies of the unfortunate men from the fated Lupata since Sunday, in consequence of heavy swells. Another effort would be made yesterday. Hut very little wreckage is coming ashore nw. Astoria was visited yesterday by a big overgrown bummer of first class metropolitan proportions, asking for x quarter of every man that passed. He fixed himself at I'age & Allen's corner, where he remained nearly all day. Unless he can give a good ac count of himself he should be put to vork on the streets. Astoria has no room in it for professional bummers. Referring to the Lupata disaster, the Astoria correspondent of the Ore gonian says: "Capt Irven had many warm friends in Astoria, having visit ed this port twice in the Lupata, the last tune bringing with him his newly married wife, from whom Mrs. Capt. G. W. Wood of this city hud received a letter notifying her that she would pay her another visit this winter. Man proposes but God disposes." --The Astoria Chamber of Com merce will elect oflicers for the ensuing year on next Monday evening. The efforts of this organization in behalf of Oregons best interests, are beginning to bear fruit, as will be seen by refer ence tohe work of congress, and it is hoped that citizens of Astoria who hare faith in Astoria, will aid the Chamber of Commerce in every pos sible way to crown its efforts with The Yakima Record of the 18th says: "A real genuine, eld-fashioned chinook wind is much needed in this locality. Jf it don't come pretty soon we won't have a hoof of cattle left, and as it is the losses are bound to be Tery heavy." Why do not the people of eastern Washington prepare fodder for their stock in winter? Their neg lect of this matter is ten fold worse than the weather -which is never so severe as in Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc. The Coos bay News says: "R. D. Hume and company's new steamer and tug is receiving the finishing touches at the shipyard at Ellensburg. The machinery is in position, and being nearly new, used in the Varuna during one trip frmi San Francisco to Ellensburg, only; it is expected that she will prve a fast vessel. She is built for the coasting trade, and will touch at all the ports of any impor tance between the Coquille aud San Francisco, whore business can be ob tained; and, being of light draught, Tuj well adapted to the trade for which she is designed, and will prove of great convenience to the smaller ports depending entirely upon schoon ers for their freights, as the steamer will make regular trips. Capt. Caugli ell will be placed in command." Warranty deeds" quit claim deeds and mortgages, lor sale at this office. Common Council Proceedings. Council met in regular session with Mayor D. C.
