The resolution adopted contained the follewing: From this slate and capitol, whore -."HXK) were offered for the head of the jrreat philanthropist, we rejoice to make this declaration to all the land, and call iijwu all to praise andMTve the God who Jed our Moses to conquer the I'huronh of American slavery, and Jo make his cap tives free, May'Jle jive us grace to continue till we achieve a complete vic tory over every wrong in all our land. Pacific 3i:iil Troubles. New York, June 12. The Public to-d:ty, speaking of Pacific Mail affairs, says that the last steamer under the contract has sailed, and the supply ceases this week. The plain truth is that the company has been kept alive by its contract with a subsidy from the Pacific road, which they have withdrawn; and the recent elec tion gave the Panama road power Foreclose withL-ease,- neatn ess, and dispatch the mortgage held and to take possession of ships which form the onty competing line for traffic or travel between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. PACIFIC COAST NEWS. Trial of Hall the lcf:tultcr. San Francisco, June 11. Law rence Otis Hall, defaulting clerk of the London and San Francisco bank, was placed on trial to-day on charges of grand larceny. Let ters from Hall to the officers of the bank were read in evidence, showing that he had stolen some 24,000 of funds of the bank. He however, denies taking 13,000 in greenbacks, missing on the day of his departure. 1 he jury after an absence of fifteen minutes returned a verdict of guilty, recommending the defendant to mercv. Satur day was set for sentence. There is a strong movement in Massachusetts in favor of the enforce ment of the Sunday laws in that state. Gov. Talbot heads the crusade against the Sabbath breakers. The Washing ton Post thinks it will be found im possible to get back into the old Puri tanic irrooves on this subiect. Public opinion will not sustain the suppres sion of innocent recreation on the only day when the poor can enjoy cessation from toil. The church peo ple would be able to win powerful influences if they would give up their rigid and obsolete notions, insist only on doing away with immoral exhibi tions, and approve of such things as afford the working chisses innocent and elevating entertainment on Sun day. People can't be forced to church or Sunday school. They will only go as attracted. But if half the effort were made to purify and elevate Sur day amusements that is made to sup press them, they could be deprived of injurious tendencies. The New York Herald's corres pondent with General Grant writes of the most beautiful tomb in the world; but it is not a grave subject, for the Orientals have learned to regard the tomb, like all things else, as a matter wf coUrse.
