N'ortli.'crcstcrii Indians.
A special dispatch to the Ore
ioni.n, dated Walla Walla, May
trn, states tliat two more com-(

Avhen Chief Moses arrives. Gen.

sim)le reason that no provision has j
been made for feeding the Indians
when they arrive there. Yakima
settlers are very indignant. The
Simcoe reservation embraces tha
best hinds in that portion of Wash
ington territory. Wilbur, agent
of the Simcoe reserve, reports four
i hundred Indian farmers. There
Mire but seventy-seven. No one
tiias confidence in Wilbur. Noth
ing permanently can possibly be
.accomplished tending to a peaceful
solution of the northwestern In-
dian question.
' Recapture of fltc Porkiri Murderers.
This dispatch from-Walla Walla
of the same date states that the
.Indian Per.Hns murderers who re
cently escaped from the Yakima
jail, have all been re-captured and
returned to jail again. Friendhy
Columbia river Indians have re
turned the horses and pack rig
ging taken off by the renegades
who attacked the deputy sheriff as
reported. They report two Indians
dead, or nearby so, and the other
four wounded. Uossell, the wound
ed man, has arrived in Yakima,
badly wounded, with both hands
badly disabled. 'Troops from fort
Simcoe have removed to Kittitass
valley b' order of Gen. Howard.
The new reservation given to Chief
Moses is unpopular. The citizens
question the legal right of the exe
cutive department to give away
this territory to the Indians
after their title luis been ex
tinguished and more or less
' of the lands occupied by whites
ior agricultural purposes; and
again, because it is next to the
British line which will always af
ford a safe retreat for all the rene
gades in the country. They can
ahvavs find a market there for sto
len horses, and obtain ammunition
and supplies.
