The New York Tribune inter
viewed Mitchell, of Oregon, on
Thursda', who said: uVe shall
carry the state next year without
the slightest doubt. The demo
crats have got into a family quar
rel that will be fatal to them.
They are in a great stew over the
recent report on executive expen
ditures and in bad condition to
make a fight. My preference is
decidedly for Blaine for next
president and so is that of most of
Oregon republicans."
Pacific coast senators will
introduce during the extra session
a modified scheme for the restric
tion of Chinese immigration, and
it is probable Senator Blaine will
take occasion to explain more fully
his position in regard to the
question. The measure, however
will not be pushed to final action
and is only designed to keep the
subject before the country and in
position in which it can be reached
early next winter.

Many more corpses have been
recovered at Szegedin. A fearful
smell of decomposed bodies comes
from the ruins.
The rivers Szanior, Maros
and White Koros are rising. The
dykes at Szentes have been repair
ed. It is doubtful whether the
dykes at Tittel can resist the floods.
Stanhope, under secretary of
.state for India, gave notice in the
ihouse of commons on the 21st,
that he would move a bill on Tues
day authorizing a loan in England
for service in India.
