Pacific Cont Dispatches.
An old man named Groeder
has been arrested in Oregon City,
on suspicion of the murder of Mrs.
Hagar.
The San Francisco chamber of
commerce held a special meeting
to take action to influence the
president on the anti Chinese bill
in his hands. It is hoped that
similar bodies in leading cities on
the Pacific coast will take similar
cation.

Capt. Paul Boynton has un
dertaken to float from Pittsburg
to New Orleans in his life-saving
suit, and has already started.
The secretary of the treasury
has called for an additional twenty
million of o 20s, thirteen millions
coupons and seven million regis

go through the different stages of

the various professors; to be con

A special from Santa Fe,New
Mexico, announces more trouble
in Lincoln county. H. J. Chap
man, a lawyer at the head of the
McSween faotion, was shot dead
in front of the court house at
Lincoln.
The liabilities of Archbishop
Purceli appears to increase by la
ter developments. The trustees
appointed some time ago to receive
arid audit claims, decline to make
a public statement of the amount
already filed, but at a recent meet
ing of the clergy, at which .the
archbishop presided, he stated
claims that had alrea'dy been filed
amounting to 83,600,000. All
schemes for his release having ap
parently failed, efforts will be
made by a committee of Roman
Catholic clergy to have the state
laws modified so 'that a lottery
scheme can be inaugurated for his
benefit. .Their success, however,
is considered doubtful. In Ohio,
. Irish catholics also complain that
no relief has been rendered the
archbishop from the .German
churches, while the latter ask that
a full statement of his wants be
made to the public first.

In the recent engagement
between the government troops and
revolutionists in Central America,
25 men were killed. The rev
olutionists had rather the worst of
the battle. The state of Cauca is
