The Sunday Law.
Having been asked repeatedly what
the existing laws were in regard to tlic
profanation of Sunday, we give the
statue as it now reads in the "General
Laws of Oregon." Sec G53, chapter
xlix, "Crimes Against Public Policy,"
reads as follews:
Section 053. If any person shall
keen open any store, shop, grocery,
ball-alley, billiard room, tippling
liouse or any place of amusement, or
shall do any secular business or labor,
other than works of necessity or mercy,
-on the first day of the week, commonly
called Sundaj', or the Lord's day, such
person, upon conviction thereof, shall
be punished b' fine not less than live,
nor more than fifty dollars. The fol
lowing are deemed works of necessity:
1. The buying and selling of meats,
fish and milk at retail, before nine
o'clock in the morning.
2. The buying and selling drugs and
medicine at retail or upon prescrip
tion. 3. The selling of food, to be eaten
.on the premises where sold; and
L The keeping opea of barber shops
and laboring at such trade until ten
.o'clock in the morning.
