From tho Standard, Juno 2d The important advantage that Ure on has over California in the matter of unfailing seasons has been well ventilated and will be thoroughly un . derstood after awhile by immigrants seeking homes on this Pacific coast. But another and equal important ad vantage is the great mildness of our summer. We published yesterday an extract from the San Francisco Bulletin showing the extreme heat now obtaining in California the thermometer at points in the interior going up to 113 degrees. It is burn ing up the crops, the vegetation, the .: mH fho leafv June trees are nHflino- their leaves so rapidly as to i indicatcAutumn instead of mid-Summer. Here we have almost the gen ialitv of smiling Spring, just enough of heat to make the weather delight ful, while blankets are indispensable at night. It is true the mercury indi i cates what would in the cast be a high degree of heat, but the same laws do not seem to govern the weath er here as there. Here at ninety de crees it is not uisagreeamy uui, ' rees it, ,& 'vrt ?f .vn(l mplf I thouhllleV lork it woukl melt , all the paper collars in use on Broad- i xvnv Tho. difference is saiu to result fmm the irreater dryness of our at mosphere; that when we have hot weather the heat passes out from the bedv: that the pores are all open and so sensitive that the slightest change of temnerature produces chilliness. I nd that the hot Eastern atmosphere, being humid, causes the heat to be retained. Here the caloric radiates j from one; there it continues to accu- . muiate. nere uiuugu it p.iaauo u i the nineties at times, it never gets on beyond a hundred ?sin uuiiornia, and our vegetation is never burned up. An Oregon Summer is one of the inostT delightful enjoyments if nature, and when its extraordinary character shall become thoroughly understood shall become thoroughly understood our State will become thesummenn- place of the wealthy who live below us and of many eastern peopie. vur lovely bavs will become more famous than the Italian and our beautiful aea beaches will furnish watering plares more sought after than Long Island and Saratoga, Yaquina, Coos, Tillamook and Umpqua bays will yet be famous. Advertising by Splurges. Profit able and ucciaaful advertising is an art founded upon principles which may be said to constitute a science. 5Ioat sa gacious business men who advertise ex renively do not go upon blind, irregular invjul-is, but proceed according to an in- lollicontand well-conidered ytem which I they have deliberately adopted.
