T HJ iLiaMMijiat'jgjJM'Ma'agJHgjiaadt! Tri-Weekly Astorian ASTORIA. Dec 27, 1S73 The ability of nearly every man to pay his debts, depends upon his ability to collect debts due him. Hie individuals of a community are linked together by a chain of debts and credits and in time of depression the refusal of a person to discharge a single liability ,,often embarrasses a line of a dozen debtors and creditors. Hence the prompt payment of small debts becomes, in times like these, a public as well as a -private duty. The same money that pays a debt in the morning may pay a dozen before dark, and twelve men are thus re lieved of anxiety and pressure by this payment of one obligation. The Aldine for Dedember is es juxcially rich in the number and quality of its illustrations several of which are remarkable as productions of art. Among the most striking are Christmas in the Fields, Old Friends, .Behold Yon Towers, The Love To ken, Training Terriers and Ilaidie. The letter press of the present num oer is more than usually attractive. The Statement published that here was not one United States na val vessel at Havana, is accounted for bv the fact that it was a part of i he arrangement between Secretary Fish and the Spanish Minister, that there should be no show of menace whatever on our part which would increase the excitement at Havana and elsewhere in Cuba, while the plan of release was intended to be effected in the quietest manner pos sible ASTORIA MAHKET&.
