Yellow fever in Shreveport, Louisi ana, is terrible and continued una bated on the loth, and the "weather was unfavorable. Sixty per cent of those attacked die. There is great suffering in all classes of society for want of proper nursing. Citizens are doing all in their power to check the disease. Interments on that day numbered twenty-two. The How ard Association is greatly in need of assistance. A dispatch from Mem phis, Tennessee says: The wildest rumors prevailed with regard to the yellow fever. Trains leaving on va rious roads were crowded with per sons fleeing from the scourge. Lord C. Baker, Superintendent of the Wes tern Union Telegraph Company sends the following. "To the Agent of the Associated Press: The latest advices from Shre veport represent the yellow fever as unabated, and the distress in the city indiscribable. Of six men in our telegraph office, five have taken the fever and two have died. Inter ments average 30 to 40 daily, in a population perhaps of not over 4,000. All the physicians and nurses are worked down. The people of the country should know these terrible fticts and send aid to this suffering citv." MTSCEIXAJfiEOUS ITEMS A girl in Elyria, O., is learning the carpenter's trade. Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, is so crowded with Summer resorters that the school house and church have been opened ta furnish lodgings at night. F. Brinkman, merchant of Law rence, Kansas, tried to burn hispart uea's buildings bejeause he was jeal ous of him, and, failing, drowned himself. James Beady bas recovered $14,000 damages from Duhith, Minn., because he broke his leg where there ought to have been a sidewalk instead of a cellar. The town will go into bank ruptcy. The citizens of Charleston, Indiana wanted very muck to hang a desper ado named Reynolds, who was in jail for killing a man, but the double guard and the array of shot-guns, which the Sheriff had prepared for their reception, convinced them that it was wiser, after all, to let the law deal with the man.
