To Investors. The Northern Pacific Railroad Company has now huilt, equipped and put in operation, nearly 517 miles of ite main line of road through an excellent coun try and along what is known as the Valley Route to tho Pacific. Tho finished portions already enjoy a large and fast increasing traffic. Tho section approaching completion connect the chain of Lakes with tho navigation (rf tho Upper Missouri and Columbia rivers with Puget Sound, secure at once a largo and profitable business and entitle tho Company o about 10,41)0,000 acres of excellent average land in fee simple With these accomplished results, the Com pany offers, and is now rapidly selling, its First Morgago Bonds, for completing the construction and opuipment of its road across the Continent. After careful investigation, we re'eommend these bonds as a well secured and unusually profitable investment. They JiavooO years to run; principal and interest 4i re pavable in gold; tho interest (seven and three-tenths per cent.) i eiual now to about '4 per cent, in currency. The coupon and registered bonds can be exchanged for each other, at tho pleasure of tho holder. Gold checks for the semi-annual interest on the registered bonds arc mailed to the post office addrc-s of the owner. These securities have the following elements of strength and safety: They are the obliga tion of a strong corporation; they are also a mortgage on the Road, it- right of way, e iiiip ments and franchises, and a first lean on its net earnings. In addition to this usually suf ficient security, there is pledged for tho pay ment of the principal and interest a Grai'.t of Land, averaging about 23,000 Acres per Mile fortheentiro length of tho Road. At the jiverage price per acre at which other Land (Jrants havo thus far been sold, this real estate security will yield more than $1K1,U!)0 per mile moro than thrco times tho possible is sue of bonds. Tho Company has already begun the pro cess of redeeming and cancelling its first mort gage b mds, as they are now being received, at 1.10 in payment and exchange for the Corn pan v's lands. Mr. Smith was for many years senior partner of tho linn of Smith A; Davis. And, brides being a thoroughly practical druggist and chemist is, withal, a genial a gentleman as ever grasped a hand in friendship. His store is fitted up and stocked in a magnificent manner with everything usually found in a complete stock of drugs, chemicals, perfum eries, etc, But tho feature par excellence is the soda fountain, one of tho famous Arctic patent, an immense affair, a monument reared in marblo and silver to the health of tho thirsty. It has deliveries, on opposite sides, and can accommodate a rush. It is stocked withTKissehgon, Congress, Vichy, Seltzer and different kiada of syrups. Tho caohng appas artus ithinost perfect inuso, and the prc duct of 'that fountain a draught that surpasses 4,th nectar of the gods." ASTORIA MARKETS. AsTom.vN Office, Sept, 3.
