Tho history of this medicine can not better bo explained by mo than by inserting tho following somewhat condensed letters. SAMUEL COR WIN. Proprietor. San Francisco, July 2, 1872. My dear old friend, Samuel Corwin I have no doubt but you will bo much surprised on receiving this letter, but, perhaps, not more so, or more gratified, than I was to hear from you. Tho manner in which I heard from you, and learned of your whereabouts, is this: I happened to bo looking over an .Oregon nows papor and noticed your name, as Representa tive elect, from Tillamook county. Tho thrill of pleasure which I experienced on reading, is indiscribablo. Tho many acts of kindness which I received at your hands long yoars ago have nover been forgotten, notwithstanding our correspondence has been broken for 17 years. Well, Sam, I won't attempt to give you more than the outlines of what has tran spired with mo since wo last corresponded. So many incidents of tho past, in which you and I were connected, crowd upon my mind that I cannot think or write of myself. Does your mind ever revert to tho past,, when wo first met how you took mo in as a partner, when those who ought to havo boon my best friends throw off on mo how we got snowed in and had to live on potatoes straight for six weeks how good that grir.loy nieattasted what a disgraceful retreat wo made from our poor innocent Jack, when wo thought wo were besieged by a grizzloy. Well, Sam, those ovents of 1852 frequently furnish subject mat tor for my thoughts, and, as I am writing to you, crowd upon my mind, but I will dismiss thorn for the present to givo placo to that which will, perhaps, bo of greater interest to you. I pocketed cloven thousand dollars out of tho " Deep Claim" you gave mo in Maraposa, and started for homo in Juno, 1855. I invested four thousand dollars in real estate in this city, and left it in care of McLano, our old cabin mate. My property hero has yielded mo a handsome income, and quadrupled in valuo. I went into business in New York city, in which I was very successful sold out two years ago, since which time I have been trav eling through tho European countries. You know I used to havo a weakness for traveling; well, it has been gratified to my heart's con tent. While in Franco I was takon with the small-pox. Tho lady of tho inn told mo that I was fortunate to take the disoasoatthat placo, as thero was an old small-pox doctor near by who nover failed to cure, no matter how bad tho disease; and sure enough, I began to ro cover within four hours after commencing to take tho medicine, and in twenty-four hours 1 folt quite well. I was so much elated with tho magical effects of tho medicine that I was determined, if possible, to obtain tho formula, in which I succeeded, by paying handsonioly and promising not to divulge it in Franco. 1 see from Oregon papers that you havo the diseaso among you. Tho enclosed packago contains the formula and sufficient material for family uso. I havo cured all the cases that I havo come in contract with, and And it an infallible cure and provenlivo. When you answer this, I will forward sufficient of tho material to make you a fortune, as I havo am ple, and rest assured I reciprocate past favors. I will close for tho present and await anxi ously your answer. Direct to San Francisco, as I will remain hero about two months. Yours etc., ISAAC RICHARDSON. LEGAL NOTICES. When I received this medicine, there being no small-pox in tho State of Oregon, I sont packages to a number of places in California and other States, to bo properly tested, al though my own confidence in its virtue was completely established by tho sourco from which I obtained it. Tho following letters were duly roceived from tho partios to whom I sent test packages of tho medicine: Sacramknto, Cal , Dee. 27, 1872. Samuel Corwin, Nehalem, Oregon Dear Sir: I havo tho pleasure of communicating to you tho fact 1 had an opportunity at last of testing tho efficiency of your preparation for the cure of small-pox. Mr. A. Koyser, amend of mine, was taken with tho small-nox Dec ember IS th. I learned tho fact about six o'clock on tho evening of tho 19th, and started immediately for the residence of Mr. K., sit uated about fourteen miles from hero, towards Cache Creek, Yolo county. I got to K.'s placo just twenty minutes before twelve o'clock, and commenced giving tho medicino precisely at twelve o'clock. Continued to give tho medi cine every hour until twelvo o'clock next evo ning, having given twenty-nine doses; and, without further aid, K. recovered, and is now as well as over, without any visiblo signs of over having had tho disease. All of us who wore exposed, took of tho medicino as a pre ventive, and I havo no doubt, by eo doing, were kept from getting tho diseaso. Yours etc.. JAMES HASBLN. Fkuxdalk. Humboldt-COjCaLFeb-.r 1873. Friend Corwin YoMr small-pox cure proved quite a God-send to thi community lately. 1 had tho satisfaction of curing three of our townsmen of tho small-pox lately. Now, 1 am out of medicino. and I want you to send me about a thousand bottles, or send an agent down heie. You would do woll to have an agent in overy town in California.
