Celebrating its 50th anniversary with its 2021 event, the competition was for children ages 8-13. The Sail- ors went 3-0 and came home middle school champions of the Mountain West Confer- ence. In the first game of the day, Mapleton beat Mohawk 25- 16. This put the Sailors into the semifinals. In that game, they squeaked by Alsea 16-14. Siletz awaited Mapleton in the championship game. Mapleton Coach Lou Bur- russ knew the championship game was going to be a chal- lenge for his team.
