FOOTBALL from page 1A The Viking quarterback did most of this damage on the ground Friday night, finishing with 123 yards on 16 carries to go with his two touchdowns. The 2-point conversion failed, and the score was 14-10 at the half. In the second half, the Vikings fo- cused even more on the run. In fact, Erickson only threw five passes all game, finishing 2-5 for 22 yards. The Vikings chewed up almost six-and-a- half minutes with their first drive of the second half that ended when se- nior Camp Lacouture scored from 4 yards out to extend the Siuslaw lead to 20-10. Erickson once again crossed into the endzone for the 2-point con- version to make the score 22-10. Lacouture finished the game with 96 yards rushing to go with his 12th touchdown of the season, and the Vi- kings ended up with 319 total yards for the game, 297 of which were on the ground. The Challengers scored their own rushing touchdown right before the end of the third and also kicked in the extra point to tighten the game. The score was 22-17 going into the final quarter. Siuslaw put together another long drive to start the fourth that ended with a lucky break. Lacouture fumbled after a short run into the endzone, se- nior Braydon Thornton recovered the ball for the touchdown and SHS ex- tended its lead 28-17. The Challengers would score again to pull within one score, 28-23. They attempted a 2-point conversion to get a field goal, but Viking senior Henry Rankin sacked the CC quarterback to keep his team’s lead at five points. The sack was another example of the excellent defense played by Siuslaw in the game.
