“Somebody’s Daughter: A
Memoir”
by Ashley C. Ford
Through poverty, adoles-
cence and a fraught relation-
ship with her mother, Ashley
Ford wishes she could turn
to her father for hope and
encouragement. There are
just a few problems: he’s in
prison, and she doesn’t know
what he did to end up there.
She doesn’t know how to
deal with the incessant wor-
ries that keep her up at night
or how to handle the changes
in her body that draw un-
wanted attention from men.
In her search for uncondi-
tional love, Ashley begins
dating a boy her mother
hates. When the relationship
turns sour, he assaults her.
Still reeling from the rape,
which she keeps secret from
her family, Ashley desperate-
ly searches for meaning in
the chaos.
Then, her grandmother
reveals the truth about her
father’s incarceration …
and Ashley’s entire world is
turned upside down.
and the Cascade Corvette Club,
which had dozens of colorful
automobiles on display. Visitors
could wander through the rows
of brightly painted vehicles while
listening to performances from
Sydney Crapser and The Johnny
Kallas Band.
Sautner is planning to present
an Autumn Fall Festival next year,
but she is also planning to hold a
Halloween event this month and,
later this year, a winter holiday
gathering on Saturday, Dec. 4,
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Santa
and his live Reindeer during the
Mapleton Christmas Festival.

HIGHLIGHT:
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports
congratulate junior Siuslaw Viking football player Ian Sissel.
Ian’s play on both sides of the ball helped Siuslaw score their
first 4-0 start since 2013. On defense he had an 87 yard return
on a fumble recovery. On offense he rushed 7 times for 77
yards. Ian’s blocking and tackling also contributed to the 38-34
victory against the reigning State Champions.
Honorable Mention:
Chad Hughes - Viking Cross Country
Highlight: Honorable mention goes to senior Viking
Cross Country runner Chad Hughes. Chad took first
place in Saturday’s Woahink Cross Country Invitational
with a time of 17:00.5 leading the Viking boys to a
victory.
